Don’t rule out feeding flake every now and again. You may find that they find it easier and is good to fill their tummies between other meals, especially if they are not finding the other stuff. Flake is easier for them to come across in the tank.

Blind cave tetras, Astyanax fasciatus mexicanus (and all other naturally blind fish) have no problem whatsoever finding food without eyes. Thery are simply so well adapted that for them, the eyes are superfluos. You don't even have to think about it!

I've seen the sighted version reach @ 5".
Below, I snorkeled with them in Cenote Aktun Ha, and even at a small size they were quite aggressive, every time I flinch in the video they were biting my ear lobes.

The aqueon hob filters work for me. I put a sponge over the intake for improved filtration.
