Blood parrot controversy

I think, in my opinion, that everyone's entitled to their opinion about it. As long as the fish doesn't look like it's wandered into Chernobyl, I don't think it's distribution should be put to end. If people are against the idea of hybrids in general then they aren't thinking realistically. Look around, there are sooooo many hybrids not only fish, boys.

Lol,yep I don't have a problem with hybrid fish per se...and fish are all that I am thinking about as far as this discussion goes but BPs do look like they were bred in streams in Chernobyl...I can't even find the catfish that I want in its pure form but there are hybrids of it and another species seemingly all over the market and they also look like alien fish.

To me BP are just so deformed, far removed from the original fish. Flowerhorn at least resemble their form of their ancestors although changes in color and minor physical changes. IMHO blood parrots were taken to far, but I guess its not much different then a pug dog lol

Don't apologize, your assessment of their appearance and functionality was actually spot on krichardson.

Well thank you.I just don't get why they are so popular, maybe a lot of their fans just feel sorry for them lol.To each their own as the saying goes.I don't know what the thinking behind creating the Flowerhorn but at least it is a good looking fish.I'd say that the FH is the only good looking hybrid fish so far.

It's the same reason why **** like Ryukins are popular. Or black moors. Any of the designer goldfish, really, are just atrocious. I guess Shebunkins are okay, but that's just coloration. My brothers wife loves Ryukins, thinks they are cute. I think they are so overbred to the point where they can't feed themselves unless they are in with other deformed fish. As far as I know (and correct me if wrong) but blood parrots aren't exactly reliable or formidable in any way when it comes to taking care of themselves, so putting them with more competitive species makes them basically just give up on life (or try their best which is about the equivalent effect, lol)

If you find the blood parrots visually appealing, then get them. Literally no reason you shouldn't if you find them attractive.

To be honest I think they look sorta cute, but I am surprised at the amount of people who find them really ugly. I guess we have different aesthetic preferences in other things besides women

That's what I'm saying man. I've had people tell me my senegal bichirs are an ugly species that is too small compared to the ornates. I've had people tell me my Geophagus surinamensis are inferior to altifrons, I've had people tell me my random spotted dwarf Synodontis sucks compared to petricola....I mean what the hell ever. If you get the fish you like then the only people who need to butt hurt about it is anyone that doesn't like them. If you get fish everyone else likes, then the only person who is gonna have a sore butt is probably you.

Get what you want. Straight up man, just take care of it well and you will not regret it. If it would make you feel better, I can tell you all about hybrids in the wild. I am not a geneticist but I am a professional paleontologist ;). Hybrids gonna hybrid, who gives a **** if other people are stupid about it. As long as they aren't tattoo'd, injected or bred maliciously (aka suffer for a short 6 month life then die horribly, but sell cause pretty) then I think, ethically, you're completely fine. This ethical opinion comes from my brother, who by chance is doing his PhD in animal ethics lol. Well not directly from him, but tempered from years of discussion with him. He's a fish keeper and right now has Ryukins; if there is a fish out there that is ethically stupid to breed, it's them...but he's fine with it and is the expert so...yah. Ethically you're safe.

hooray for once we are both topical at once!
