They may live up to 15 years. I still has a blood parrot that I purchased in 2004 but it was already adult so I don't know how old he is.
I was part of the other thread you mention, so I may be repeating myself; but Blood Parrots have excellent personalities, get a large size, and have excellent colours.
I also havent seen a really deformed blood parrot mouth in a while, which would lead me to believe that they're perhaps becoming "more normal". Personally I'm glad when I watch my tank that I can have a fish which gets large, has cichlid intelligence; and can actually exist in a community without killing everything.
If you're buying a fish based on its ability to rip something to shreds with its teeth e.g. dovii, then fair enough you won't be into blood parrots.

Yeah sorry about that I decided I'd make a new thread to get the full spectrum. I loved your advice. Speaking of the off chance of getting one with an extra deformed mouth, is there any way I can look at one in the pet store and tell if it's mouth is more or less deformed?
