Blood parrot controversy

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Here's one of my BRP's.

Had this guy for about 7 years now. My favorite BRP male. To me, this is one of the BRP's out of the four I have that has a more developed-looking body, has a almost regular looking mouth, and has more of the red devil cichlid looks.

They do indeed have quite a bit of personality.. always coming up to me dancing, looking at me, and they not very skittish at all once they get to know you.

Really nice BP :) op, I've attached a few pics below, the orange BP I'd say has a more normal mouth shape than the yellow parrot, for comparison purposes

Amazing! Thank you both for the pictures! Soon I'll be uploading pictures of my own ^_^ I plan on getting mine when he's young, so I can have many photos of him growing from youth stages to adult

You're welcome, and thanks guys for complimenting my BRP. :)

You know, I was on the bandwagon against hybrids but lately I'm starting to have a change of heart. I've been watching a lot of animal documentaries and it pisses me off how many species go extinct on a daily basis somewhere in the world. I mean, things we have seen may very likely be gone when our children are grown. So now im thinking, heck, if people are so busy destroying some species, what would it hurt for folks to create some? I mean, what if zebra plecos, blue eyed plecos, and clown killifish go extinct one day but at least folks managed to create a flowerhorn and red texas or parrotfish for some added diversity? Just my 2 cents

The problem is that those species are probably not good to release back into the wild. If a niche is created animals will move to fill it. The most moral thing we can do is mitigate the amount of species we off.

Good point! It makes one wonder what kind of wild looking species we'll have in a few hundred years

I dabble in native north American fish. During my collecting adventures for bluegill and pumpkinseed I get these bland hybrid green sunfish 9 times out of 10.

Hybrids happen. Nature or captivity, it doesn't matter. If you like them buy them if you don't then don't.

I really hate those baloon googly eyed gold fish. Every time I see them at the store I want to punch them in the face. So I dont buy them. And I go home. And thats the end of it

I must admit I really wanted a bluegill too... maybe more than a blood parrot... maybe :)
