He is likely still stressed from the move. Lots of the predators sulk for a while after being moved. Based on the look of its mouth, it appears to be a small game hunter eating small fish and shrimps, or tearing flesh from a larger fish like a piranha. Maybe toss some guppies or ghost shrimp in there to curb his appetite.
Being a wild caught fish it also wouldn’t hurt to deworm him just in case.
The store said they’ve had him for a while so I’m not gonna worry about deworming. I’ll see if I can get a dozen ghost shrimp tomorrow

Is anyone able to find a photo or video of a full grown blue whale catfish? Or has anyone kept one and seen it get to 7-8”

My mom agreed to sacrifice one of her 5 black skirt tetras to the all mighty Cookie Monster so we’ll see how that tetras doing in the morning and see if the Cookie Monster approves of the sacrifice or not. I’ll update that in the morning

Edit: thank you to everyone who is following along with the thread and thank you to everyone who comments on the thread. This species is rarely seen in the aquarium hobby and I am lucky and thankful to have found and bought this fish I am also thankful that I have the MFK community to help me with any future or present problems I may or might have with my aquarium and or fish. Again this species is very rare in aquarium trade and there is very little known information on how to properly keep the species we are all learning as this thread grows and there will be many questions and I’m sure there’s going to be many bumps in the road of keeping this fish in captivity. Thank you all again for all of your help I appreciate all and any feedback you’re all amazing people with amazing fish keep up the good work everyone.

This is your first wild aquarium fish right? Internal Worm parasites take time to show any issues in fish. It could take months for you to notice symptoms, and by then the parasites are so prolific in the fish that not only do you have to deworm, but also treat for secondary bacterial infections.

+1
The first thing I did with my groups of Amazon puffers was treat prazi pro to ensure any initial worms are dead. I’m now treating metroplex because months later, one is showing signs of parasites (getting abnormally thin compared to the others yet eating just as much).

Why have you fed him so often? You've fed him like twice from what I hear and now want to feed him again? Chill out, hes good dont worry. My gulper cat ate once a week a jumbo shrimp and he was like triple the size of your whale catfish. If you over feed, waste will catch up an he can get too fat. I know you're excited and so was I, but taking the proper steps in keeping him is very important. Good looking fish. Good luck.

True. In the wild most of these predators rarely get meals.
