He runs "Tangled Up in Cichlids," he specializes in rare CA and SA cichlids. He has a website and is also a vendor here on MFK. Google "Jeff Rapps" and his website will pop up.

flashy is obviously a subjective term, meaning "brilliant and dazzling, esp for a short time or in a superficial way". bright red and yellow and white oscars, i would consider more "flashy" than the mostly earthy colored wild type oscars. what one person calls flashy, another may call boring or even offensive, loud or obnoxious. also, calling something "flashy" does not imply that it is more desirable or better looking.

i think you might be thinking that if it isn't flashy, it must be ugly; and that is not the case at all. why people prefer them over the wild types, that i couldn't tell you.

i didn't think i had to spell this out for you, that's why i was confused by your question. did i make what i meant clear to you now?
Lol. I'm not stupid, I know exactly what you're saying, but what I'm saying is that wild oscars are often a lot more "flashy" (brightly colored with more exotic patterns, etc.) than the typical CB tigers, reds, and albinos.

I have wanted wild pattern Oscars since the late 70s, particularly the Olive colored specimens, but have never in all that time, seen them offered for sale! Shedd Aquarium in Chicago has the only live specimens I've ever seen. (I prefer wild pattern Discus too!)

I've attached a pic (albeit a pretty rough one) of one of the Shedd Oscars so you can see what I mean. I'd fork over a lot of cash for a mated pair of those!

if you think wild oscars are more flashy, you must have your very own definition because i don't see how you could think that this...

is more brilliant and dazzling, esp for a short time or in a superficial way, cheap and ostentatious, tastelessly showy, ostentatious or showy often beyond the bounds of good taste; especially : marked by gaudy brightness than these...

i don't think you're stupid, but i am certain that you are misunderstanding the meaning of the word "flashy".

x2, I do prefer the regular coloration as well. Have two myself.
Everyone has their own opinion though. ;)

Well sorry, but you are wrong, I understand exactly what you mean by "flashy." Not every wild oscar looks like the one you posted. Check out some of Rapps' f0 Peru O's, they have much more exotic patterning and brighter coloration than most captive bred specimens. So, now that I have repeated myself yet again, I am finished. ;)
