Bluegill Diet Question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
oh ok, how big were the crappie/feeders?

i have never been able to get crappie off of live foods either. that's why i no longer keep them. great fish to keep other than that.

The crappie were anywhere from 5 to 7 inches. I had caught them when they were like 2 to 3. I had fed them guppies and small crickets at first. When they started getting bigger, I just fed them mollies and etc. For whatever reason they stopped eating the crickets when they got older. Also they would never eat nightcrawlers.

also, any idea what crappie minnows eat when they are 3"?they don't seem to go for nightcralers too..

Like very small bluegill, crappie prefer small insects and crustaceans, daphnia and fairy shrimp as well as scuds are great food for them, also small crickets.

has anyone else noticed that cmj's tanks are seriously over loaded???

Wether or not his tanks are overstocked has nothing to do with wether or not he is giving good advice.

thanks demjor, shark, guppy.
I did get some frozen bloodworms yesterday. Will probably feed them tonight.

I am happy that 2 of the large goldfish have been trained to eat floating pellets before the guppys do.lol

What diet should a adult bluegill be on?
would they go for pellets of any kind? what about a stapke freeze dried diet of some kind?

Ok. so i can train them to eat from the top?
what about, shrimp? and freezedried bloodworms(for adults)

how much should I feed..everyday?

yes my bluegill were 1" when i brought them home and after a day they were eating flakes, and if you can't get them to eat at the top you can give them sinking pellets, shrimp would fill them faster because they eat a lot, i feed my fish twice a day as much as they can eat in a couple minutes but i don't feed them one day a week to help with digestion in the fish
