bluegill

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i raise true bluegills for many of moons now. bluegill get big 13+ pluss u need the room for swimming. they grow fast untill about 4 inches. then they grow very slowly. most bluegill that are 6in are around 4-5 yrs old. u can keep one in a 55 for a few years but adventually u going to need something in the 140+ range.

I had 1 in a 30 gallon and it did fine. I caught it when it was about 2 inches and it grew very slowly in that size tank. I had it for over 3 years and it was only 5.5 inches at that point.

Thanks for proving my point. Just because it lived for a period of time doesnt mean its the right thing to do. A dog can live in a closet and the elderly can live on catfood, but its unethical.
Dont torture your animals like this. They rely on your for happiness.

LOL! I love reading these types of things, like when people say oh largemouth bass get like 20IBs. so you need like a 30000 gallon tank, and that bluegill get 13inches!!!!AHAHAHHA show me proof that someone has raised a 13inch plus bluegill in a freaking aqaurium maybe in a pond but in an aqaurium a bluegill will reach 8inches and i will give you a trillion dollars if your bluegill gets bigger than 15in in your tank. Oh yeah your going to need around a 50gallon as these actually are pretty active.

Later when i get home i'll show u pic of my brother 600 gallon custom BG tank that have several 13+ BG in it. lol get ready to cash out :D

how big were the bluegill when he got them??and be honest

when he got them they were all under 4 inch. they were from the fry i had from my pond. as i stated eariler i been raising BG for many years.

Northern Pike is right, and the rest of you are idiots... You don't NEED a 150 g tank for a bluegill. 30g is fine if you catch him small and no it will not grow as fast or big in a 30 g but no fish will grow as big as it should in a tank. Have you ever heard of a 20lb bass being caught in a small pond? No, because it doesnt happen. For fish to reach their full growing potential they need lots of space.

Another note, you guys talk about stunted growth like the fish are dying... It happens all the time in the wild. The fish just dont grow as big but they are healthy. it could be from the size of the body they live in or lack of food or competition.....
