ITS ok though that fish are being fed fish, its ok that at bass tournaments a bass is ripped at of the water going 50mph because of 80ib test, its ok that deer get hunted out of season, its ok though that a illegal sized fish is being bashed on the rocks, Is it ok that a bluegill has no danger of predators in a tank? is it ok that fish don't give a **** about anything accept food? THe reason we keep fish is because we like to watch them and observe them , not because we feel bad for itZeetrain;4511489; said:The reason why people are commenting about this is because they care about all fish and to them its not just "1 freakin bluegill", its a living creature that doesnt deserve an uncomfortable life or a painful death. They are trying to prevent someone from making a mistake that many people make all the time when they get a fish when it is small and is supposed to reach a size that is too big for the tank they have. What you stated proves nothing. Why does a fisherman bashing a bluegill on a rock prove that it is ok to put one in a tank that is too small and make them live in conditions that are uncomfortable or painful for them? Atleast with the bashing they die instantly.

The average bluegill gets to around 9" max during it's lifetime, even in large lakes. I don't think I've ever caught one above 10", and 10" only ever happened once.
To put it in some perspective, the tallest human ever was 8' 11". Pretty big guy, but the average height for a human is under 6 feet. if you are building a new house, do you incorporate 10 foot doors to accommodate the possibility that someone near 9 feet tall might move in, or do you build it with 7 foot doors to accommodate the average person that will show up? World Records are far from 'normal', and can't be used to measure the average situation.
I'd say minimum tank size for an average 9" adult would be 75g. Bigger is always better, but I think the fish would lead a fairly happy life in a 75. You could keep it in a 36 for a year maybe, but you will have to upgrade as it grows.
