Glofish do not glow, they fluoresce under the right lighting thanks to the aforementioned coral and jellyfish genes

Tetras like glassfish are usually injected, as you can see by the spinal cord being filled with neon dye.

All opaque fish like cichlids are dipped in acid, then dyed all over with a stain.

There are no glow-in-the-dark fish on the market as of yet that I know of. Any references I've encountered failed to show any true light generation, only fluorescence. They would not be visible at night with the lights off like a glow-in-the-dark toy.

parrot fish are dyed alot i have seen sevral petstores with blue, purple and even hearts dyed on them for valentines. of course i raised holy hell before i left.

Oh, I see. Must be a perch-like fish then? I never cared to find out. My bad. Little annoying fish tend to annoy me, so I ignore them. I like livebearers and danios, don't get me wrong. But if it's tiny and laterally compressed, I probably don't like it. That includes most tetras and fish that look like them. :D

its a very cruel practice i would never buy 1 and would oppose it completely that sucks!!!!!!!

read this it explains a lot about it but they were originally created to be released into the wild and detect pollutants in water.

http://www.glofish.com/faq.asp#TheScienceofGloFish

it is true its dna from jellyfish. and they are not sterile because they state the originals were altered long ago and all the ones available today are offspring from the original so its a bunch of inbred glow in the dark freaks of nature that most people find "cool!" or "cute!"

as to the OP blue oscars are dyed and sometimes tattooed and very inhumane as previously said. its sad that your local fish stores would support such a horrible market. none of mine would go near it.most people around here have never even heard of dyed or tattooed fish. thats horrible too. picture what peta or other animal groups would do if people was shaving dogs and tattooing patterns onto them. thats basically what they are doing to these fish.

I read the article. Thanks for sharing it. I say no thank you to the GloFish. Not for me. And I give a big :thumbsdow to dyed fish. I cannot stand that pratice.

MN I agree with you about peta i used to work for a animal rights group and what people on here dont know is these groups are pushing to ban the owning of non native fish for pets. and we are helping there case with all the cry baby threads. as of now in most states fish are considered personal property and not pets but all these i fell sorry for this poor fish treads are killing our cause. people want to show so bad that they know more than someone else or tell them what size tank to have . complaining about dying fish is just more amunition for the animal rights groups. the animal rights groups use all this stuff to petition the courts for new laws to regulate ornamental fish. the funny thing is all the know it alls will be no where near the courthouse when the hearings are being held to ban our fish. we need to stick together and whatch what we say on the boards before we have tanks full of bluegills and minnows. if you dont agree with things pm a person if your really trying to help and somethings just dont comment at all. people can take this how they want but ive been behind enemy lines and if we keep going the way were going we will lose the war.
