boa constrictor

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Are you willing to commit to a boa that can grow up to ten feet, weigh 50 lbs, is not guaranteed to settle down, and that craps up a storm?
All boa are different. Seeing as it is your first, Is suggest you stick with b.c.i as opposed to b.c.c. The 'common' boas are the best large beginner constrictor. They are much more robust and hardy than say Surunames or Guyanas.

WOW that is alot of info and experiences THanks u all very much i ll bookmark this thread as my reference and ll take wz all ur advices .. it is my first time having a live snake but i adore snakes and have been reading and researching about them for almost a year and a half .. hoping that someday i can have one ..

i already made her a wood box 100 cm long 50 cm width 50 cm height with a glass window front and a nets window top i made it my self last year as i said hoping someday i ll have a snake :D i already had the chance to get many local snakes but i waited to get w cool big snake like the Boas in fact i was searching for a ball python .. but i found that boa nice and cheap i got it for about 145 $ tha python i found one 150 cm for 710 $ and found an Indian python 70 cm for about 310 $

so as i really love snakes and i which i can have my anaconda pool one day i went to the boa specially for its huge size

i just want to tell u something more .. we have a village here called " abo rwash " those ppl lives with snakes and dangerous animals like wild wolfs and hyena and those wild animals found in the desert so the normal snakes to them is the Cobra family and the wild venomous snakes like the horned snakes and so .. and the pythons and boas to them is nth more than a cat next to the lions and tigers

my friend i am going to buy the snake from him is in that village and he said that he ll be next to me and teach me every thing about snakes and raising my new boa

but i really enjoined and pleased by learning from u ur experiences

Thanks all so much and keep advising me & tell me more about ur days with the boa ..

right lovely, dont take this the wrong way but do not get a big snake just because it is cool.
when i was looking in to getting large constrictors i found a docment about all the deaths that had occured from snakes....75% of them were people that had them just because they were cool.
yea they r but that is not a reason to own one. get it because u respect it and know u can provide for it for life.
what happens if she doesnt tame down?
why does ur friend want to get rid of her? and where the HELL r u buying ur snakes for that much??? lol boas here are like 40 and so r ball pythons.
WHATEVER u do please DONT get an african rock python....those things dont have the best reputation even when they ARE nice. that is definitely NOT starter....or for a few years.

no it is not just cus they are cool ...

it is cus i love snakes and i loved the boa and yes i do respect snakes very much and all what i want to make her live happy life with me i read once that snakes do know their owners ( by the smell ) so i hope she ll know me by time .. !

if she won't tamedown i ll sell it but that far option .. i ll try but i ll be so careful

he don't want to get rid of it .. that is his job selling reptiles and when he told me about it i researched on it and loved it simply .. so i told him i ll take this one

African rock python .... hmmmm why not :P :P lol

it is red tailed btw

dont get an afrock for a few years at least....well until the boas fully grown.
afrocks r ALOT different than boas...i woudnt touch an afrock if my life depended on it quite honestly.
afrocks arnt know for being the calmest most loving snakes. generally extremely had to tame down and they r still nutjobs.
they r a completely different league to boas.

i think this always put me off afrocks lol
my mate has 2 and they r just evil.

as for owner recognition...thats debatable.
im pretty sure my burm knows me and my lil girl, hes soppy as sin with us but wary around others.

retics r sposed to b able to recognise their owners ...so what i want to know is why retics r generally more aggressive than burms? lol

tbh its just hard work and dedication. if ur not willing to have the boa when it gets aggressive...im not sure u should have it. u need to think more about this hun. boas r mostly lovely and she will prob tame up nicely...but the minute she goes to bite u, u cant just get rid of her. she will b extremely stroppy during shed and of course will have her off days.
just got to respect how shes feeling.
respect for these animals goes a LONG way :D

Your thread is going to get closed for illegal activities .

[it is that much cus in my country trading in reptiles is forbidden specially snakes so they r escaping them from USA to here without the authorities knows and if they knows there is some bad ****ty business happen to pretend that they don't know :) INSTANT PAYMENT :D

im getting a royal python 1 meter instead of the boa and im getting iguana too about 40 cm

HOLD YOUR GUNS! Stop there! Stick to the royal python but I really don't suggest iguanas until you actually can tell us what they need. Iguanas are unlike snakes in many forms of care. They need far far more.

:D i said that the python is much more better than the boas so i got it instead of the boa

the iguana i got it 40 cm ( still young ) and they need branches and small trees ( green ones ) to climb on and eat fruits and vegetables .. grapes , banana , carrot , cucumber , tomato ... etc and they need high habitat than others .. right ?!
