Hey mfk, looking for some advice on what kind of snake i should get. i really like rainbow boas but i also like pythons. im wondering if any of you have any sugestions on what kind is better. im looking for one that will be managable and be able to hold without it being argessive.

also wondering if anyone knows any breeders in the gta area? please let me know guys!

It really depends in your preference. Whats the max size you want? I'd stay away from ball pythons because they are boring. Brazilian rainbow boas are hardy and easy to handle and avg 6-7ft. There are super dwarf retics which are awesome pythons, not as moody as the larger version and avg 7-9ft. central American boas are good as well and avg 4-6ft. Lots of breeders in the gta. You can check out the forum reptiles Canada.

Do uou want terrestrial or arboreal?

You have to narrow down what you want, also sizewise, for it to be meaningfull...

Dear FishGirl94

To let us help you with a possible choice on snake, we need to know a few things from you.

What size snake would you like? Length?
What is your budget on species, some snakes are cheap others, some not so much.
How big of an enclosure can you provide.

I would disagree with any rainbow boas being "hardy". I would not recommend them for a beiginner because of there high humidity requirments. Many snakes fit into a start snake niche, just need to find one you really like. Also, a snakes aggrasson is mostly up to the owner who keeps them. If you handle your snake on a regular basis from a young age and work with them until adult, most snakes will be a breeze to handle and keep. Some snakes such as rock and scrub pythons, may not calm down so I will not recommend those. No snake, know matter what the size should ever be under estimate. I have an 8 foot boa constrictor and a 7 foot anaconda and eventhough they are tame, I always take great caution when working with them.

Reptilescanada.com has a classifieds area where you can look for snakes. Also, reptileexpo.ca is a site where you can find an expo in your area, lots of breeders attend those so finding a snake should be easy :)

No way should the op keep one of the big five pythons or any morellia scrub, for that matter, or a big boa, for starters.....

These snakes can really cause you trouble, besides that they poo as cows....:)

Thanks guys, im looking for one that wont get extremly big, no more than 6 ft. or so, i also dont like the look of snakes that are thick like some pythons like blood pythons. im not picky with it being terrestrial or arboreal but my tank is 55 gal long tank. but i can upgrade it if needed. price range im lookin for a baby and im looking to spend around $300.

Well how about a spotted python. I think it will fit your needs and in will be comfortable in a 55.

okay thanks i will deffinaly take that into consideration,

what are your thoughts on the brbs? i went to reptilia today and got to hold one that was about a foot and a half long, and i loved it, most beautiful snake i've ever seen, are they a finicky breed? the guy working said it would be fine in a tank a bit bigger than mine, what are your thoughts on them?

A good suggestion bro, manageable adult size and unique as it's not what most people would think to suggest.

FishGirl94 despite the good suggestion from Trip I'd like to offer another that may be inline with being a good choice a Rough Scaled Sand Boa. I personally find them interesting they are manageable at adult sizes and take to handling fairly well.
