it seems that bocourti love large water changes,i have been doing 75% once a week since i got them, and they stay colored up more, and their colors stay more vibrant.
i noticed the same thing with my synspilum,my brother has two and i have three,i do large water changes and he doesnt,he is always amazed at how much more colorful and active mt syns are compared to his.
i am religious when it comes to water changes and gravel vacs, and not to brag but i think my fish speak for themselves.
any non believers are welcome to visit my fish room any time and bring their own camera.
my formula is good food(variety) and water changes, water changes

Hey wait a minute, that makes it sound like I don't do water changes...LOL. I do weekly 70% water changes religiously too and often do a midweek quick poop scoop. Nope, it's not only water changes that make your fish awesome. It's merely part of a bigger picture. Water changes, a good diet, and genetics, yes genetics is what make your fish spectacular. My bocourti was bought from my lfs and is probably an F22 inbred...whereas yours is F0. You simply have a better fish. I'll trade ya and see if you can make him look like yours with water changes. :D

u are correct genetics do play a part,
but i have had pet store fish that shine with the proper care and i have seen folks with fish with great genetics, not bring out their fish full potential by lack of diet and water changes.
my synspilum and my brothers are the same batch(of course he doesnt listen)and mine outshine his hands done.
and by looking at your festae i am sure you have that what it takes to bring out the best.
didnt mean to sound like you dont do water changes(just made the statement for those who might br intetested in bocourti, how to bring out thier best)you are actually the reason i decided to keep festae.

oh and if you ever want to send me your bocourti,i will be glad to bring out his best(lol)
and i have confidence that if u kept my fish they would be in good hands

ok ive been looking at pictures of boucarti online and not a single one looks anything like yours. All of the ones online are a flat yellow with some faded black bars. Yours look absolutely amazing with the pink, yellow, green, blue........ It cant all be water changes, does conkel have any more f0's for sale? I'll buy them right now.

he has f1's,which in my opinion will turn out to be just as spectacular.
there are plenty of bocourti that look like mine(greenterra's bocourti on this forum looks better than mine, imo),peanther (not sure if thats the right member)but he hsd a pair he sold to ken davis that was spectacular, and youtube has plenty of videos with really nice bocourti(monsterfishrescue on youtube has a monster of a beatiful one)
i think is just the fact if more folks kept them and posted pics you would see alot look like mine or even better, just not to many folks keep them,i get a pm like once a week from folks asking me what the fish is in my avatar.
as i stated before anyone is welcome to visit my fish room anytime.
believe me when i tell you it took a long time for them to get to this point
when i first got them they looked nothing close to this(i actually thouhht they were ugly)but the wait and work paid off.
i will post picks when they first arrived when i get off work in the morning.

wow that is quite a difference. i wonder if i should pick some up now..

a week gone and my remaining bocourti is thickening out and changed from a stressed washed out greyish colour to a golden yellow, buddha your list of foods was a great help could you also tell me the daily amounts you put into your fish and maybe some advice on how much of which to give to my 2 incher.
