well i flung my 12 inch haitiensis into my neighbors yard. right over the fence at night lol.

Well, I read this while on a conference call and started laughing, thanks for that

I throw any dead fish in the back garden for the racoons. Makes a great tastey treat for them and they don't leave any mess.

No raccoons here but my SO did see what appeared to be a red fox once. I am in a super busy part of Los Angeles but you know stranger things have happened.

I am going to eat my lunch FIRST although that could be a mistake too but I have a pretty strong stomach then she goes into a plastic bag into the freezer. What happens after that I don't know...

I normally put my fish in my compost bin... but for a fish that large, I would say freezing it, and if you like it so much get it taxidermy? Or throw it in the trash.

Don't throw it in the trash. That's really terrible. I think it says a lot about how you really feel about your fish if you just toss them in the trash. They aren't trash. Maybe it's just me, but I love my fish very dearly. I feel close to them. I know it's in my head, but I do, and it means a lot to me. I agree with kevinfleming, seal the little guy in a freezer bag, and get a nice little box. You could go to a thrift store and they always have little boxes like that. Then go to a park, or near a river, or something, and bury the fish. I live in an apartment so I can't bury mine either. But this is what I do, I freeze them and then bury them in a nearby wooded area. From the Earth, back to the Earth.

I like to treat my fish with respect, and I imagine their energy wafting up and back into the universe to be re-used elsewhere.

I really hope it works out for you, and I'm sorry about your fish.

I'm partially staring at this in horror, laughing my ass off, and now rethinking the size of the fish I want in my 125.:nilly::nilly:

No scavengers here. I am certain that if I like SOMEBODY on here lol left her out in the alley to rot the neighbors would pitch a HUGE fit.

Well the icky part is done. My roommate who is a fisherman helped me wrap her up. She is in the freezer until I can decide what to do. Just have to finish emptying and taking down the tank.

Note to self...it is morbid to watch the fish while you empty the water but who wants to stick a hand in there...

Note 2 to self. Rubber gloves, like any other thing, get old. Old rubber gloves, especially the cheap ones will split when they are old and their usefulness becomes questionable at that point. But they do provide a slight if not waterproof barrier....

And to think when I first got her I thought she might be a channel cat. At 2.5 years she would not FIT in the freezer. So yeah this is an issue that needs to be considered when taking on a monster fish.

Sadly her wounds are so sadly ugly so that is not a good option...unless it was for a disease study...good idea though for a better looking corpse.
