  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thanks guys. and i have a good and a bad news.

the good news is after i found him laying on his side for 1 day almost belly up:(, i decided to jam him between a flower pot and the heater to keep him upright (don't worry, the heater is off, summer time here in oz). the next day i found him inside the flower pot swimming upright:)

now the bad news, he is currently covered in thick fungus. all his fins and part of his body and head is also covered in wool like growth. i've been giving him pimafix for the last 3 days as well as melafix, if the fungus don't fall off by tommorow:irked:, i'm gonna scrape them off myself.
do you think this is a good idea?

i was gonna say add some slime coat to the water but now that hes covered in fungus i dont know what to say. i think treating the fungus is the best thing you can do but i wouldnt take him out and scrape it off as that would only induce more stress. good luck and i hope he comes around for ya.

Mela and Pimafix aren't strong enough for your situation. You need a true medicine to heal fungus at that stage. The good news is fish will recover from even very heavy fungus infestations if treated correctly.

Get a good antifungal medication, and make sure the water is perfect. I would make a good sized water change right now (just add the new water back a touch more slowly) to eliminate most of the other products you've used. Treat the tank according to the directions of the product you choose, and change water a few times a week for the first couple of weeks.

Once the fungus is cleared, you will need to ramp up the salt level to encourage healing and discourage infection. A good slime coat product will help too.

what do you recommend as the best anti fungal med?

Seachem Paraguard or Aquarium Pharma's Fungus Cure. The Paraguard would be my first choice as it is more of a broad spectrum product and comes in a liquid form which is much more economical. The Fungus Cure would be more expensive but may be necessary if the fungus is stubborn.

Mostly, though, focus on super clean water and the Paraguard for the first week or so.

i'd take the female out, add melafix and salt, 50% water changes everyday 'til he comes back.
the female might pick at him, same with the pleco.

wouldn't add food either cause i doubt he'd eat it.

that looks pretty sad.
how long was he out for?

Its a situation most of us know all too well but has cchhcc suggested, get some broad spectrum meds and change the water.

He'll make it through now that my fingers are crossed for you.

My female dovii just did the same thing I am hoping and praying she pulls through, I have no idea how long she was out of the water though!

does anyone use lids? lol.
