I was going to comment yesterday but figured some1 would mention it prior til today. Try asking balton777 his newly aquired festa had an large open sore and he used neosporium(misspelled). This may help your dovii out. it cant hurt.

WAIT OUT... Neosporin? The scar thing that we as people take. That can sicken a dog or cat. It can KILL a fish.

Neosporin will a fish? My fish healed faster than any other time I've had a fish with a wound. The only thing I was worried about is that it would kill my beneficial bacteria along with the harmful bacteria infecting the fish.

Are you serious? That bad? That's gonna take at least a few months for him to recover.

He NEEDS a full filled tank, not half. And what are you trying to do with less meds? He NEEDS meds at full strength.

I hope that fungus doesn't come back. Myself, I have never experienced something like that. But, from what I know that fungus come back and bite you in the ***

nah you misunderstand me, i filled it half full, but still with full strength meds, i did that because, instead of using a cup full of med in say 100g tank, i can get away with only half a cup in 50g:)

Hey mate,

Hows yer dovii going, just caught up on the thread and would be interested in his recovery process..

My 12inch male has jumped out of the tank once, but I encouraged him to do that and I was lucky to be there to catch him. I'd hate to imagine what ran through your mind when found your boy on the ground.

There are some awesome recommendations here and if you follow peoples advice, he will pull through. Just be prepared to spend the extra money on the meds, you will thank yourself later and your fish will recover sooner.

While I still have all my glass lids, i will be replacing them in the future with thick perspex/acrylic sheets - secured with sand filled bags. I now know when my 12inch dovii wants to be fed, he starts banging at the lids and its only a matter of time before one breaks...

Keep us all in the loop and get some pics up when you can, would be good to see how hes recovering.

Cheers,

It can sicken cats and dogs because of an allergic reaction. I suppose it could do the same for a fish, but the chances are slim.

As it's a topical ointment there shouldn't be any worry about it killing beneficial bacteria as the antibacterial properties are restricted to where it was applied (for the most part, I'm sure some comes off in the water).

Man, lids/hoods won't do s***, if the fish is big and strong enough, it will knock it out. And if there are little holes in the hood/lid for heaters, filters etc. will jump out that way. One of my pbass decided to jump out and he went out through such a hole.

thats what duct tape is used for...taping your lid down ha

what is it on the skin? small lives or physical wound? have ya tried to increase water temp up to 32 deg C? in most cases this temp can kill the microlives within 2 ~ 3 days, with the temp.
