Bottom Dweller Stock for 75 gallon Central/South American Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Last question, I ended up getting a JD, Jewel, and a cory today on my trip to the lfs. Now i will wait and then buy a convict and firemouth. But Originally i was going to get a GT as well, but I know they will be super aggressive as they grow old, so would you think a Salvini would do better in the tank than the GT?

The salvini Also has the potential to be crazy agressive. Corys really dont do well on their own they need to be in groups of at least 5. Instead of a firemouth you could grab more cories and then get a convict thats is the SAME gender as your jd so they do not pair.

Would you say the salvini is any more aggressive the the other tankmates or is it just as bad as the green terror. I have had single cory’s before with great success, and 5 would be too much for my tank and it’s bio load management

Probably just as bad as a green terror for the salvini. Lots of people have had them wipe a tank out.

Alright good to know. So I think i’m going to rule out the Green terror from the list because i know in the future he will be the one causing problems, so would you have any other suggestions for one more cichlid of similar temperament to the JD, FM, Jewel and Convict?

here is a pic of my tank and the new JD and Jewel. Both still a bit scared so their colors are faaaaaded. didn’t want to eat anything today but they seem to be getting along fine

alright I understand, So if I just have a Jack dempsey and a severum in the tank with some cory’s will that work out?
Just know that it could work out very well for you, or the cories could end up as lunch for the jd. Even then cories I believe have some kind of fin spikes they can open up to help prevent them from being swallowed and you could end up losing both fish.

If all raised together it might work even if it is something not recommended.

I think your fully stocked with this list. If your going to try corries I’d suggest getting at least 2-4 more to round out the school.

I also think in order to succeed at fish keeping you should aim for a 75-80% stocking for the 75g (if this is your first real fish tank)

Sometimes as a newbie you think you can skip a water change and just top up your water as it evaporates and your tank looks fine and fish are great then maybe you get lazy or busy and miss another water change and before you know it your doing one small water change a month and wondering why your fish is sick.

I’m not trying to tell you what to do with your tank bc it’s your tank and ultimately you will decide what you put in it. I just like seeing people succeed and not just throw the towel in.
