If you want all South American, then the FMs are out, they are from Mexico, actually part of North America, and the bull heads are actually closer to the Rhamdia catfish found in the same area as FMs.
In the video below, the area where it is taken, is close to where FMs live. And these species are what FMs would live with in the same natural habitat.

If you mean to paint a broad spectrum New World theme both S and N American work.
Although the water parameters in Mexico are quite different (hard mineral rich) than say the water in Amazonia, which if soft and mineral poor.
Although many species can adapt, long term health often requires getting somewhat of the same water a species has evolved to live in.
If your tap water is hard, pH above 7, and mineral rich then the North American (Central America and Mexico) might be better choices.
If your tap water if soft, pH below 7, and mineral poor, the Amazonian, and northern South American species may be better for your tanks.
