bought cracked 300

well if i need to cut it apart.would it make more sence to use a pain and build a plywood tank?

It might be cheaper if you have the extra wood, but alot more intensive

Wouldnt it be just as easy to replace the bottom piece of glass? im sure if you post in the diy section people will walk you through it fully. Either way youll come out ontop a $300 for a 300gallon tank is cheap!!

i patched a 110 gl high there was bulkhead holes on the bottom i used 2 3/4 inch pvc circle cut out i had made at a plumming store for me it its still holdind for 3yrs..
but 300 gl is a lot bigger.. goodluck

everyone here is right. guy down my street sold me a 185 for $50 with a big crack down the bottom. i figured i could just throw some silocone sealant ontop of it and that itd do the trick, thank god i filled it up outside first to test it. the only thing you can do with it is turn it into a reptile tank unless you get the proper repairs done on it. unless you want a tank with fish and no water, but most people on MFK highly recommend water with their fish so id say just get a new bottom

bought a used 300 for $300.i knew it was cracked on the bottom.i posted in the general fourm..they said to come here.they suggested replacing the bottom.ill be calling the glass store tommorow.the tank is built of 5/8.what kind of glass do i need? tempered or no?can i just cut the bottom pane of glass off or do i need to dissasemble the whole tank?thanks for your help and wisdom.

in all honested id feel safe putting two large peices of plexie glass that fit real tight in there stacked ontop of eachother and then sealed real well. its the cheapest route to go but it may not work. plexie glass is cheap and easy to work with. two peieces would help hold up against the weight of the water, but because it is only a crack i think itd hold up well if laid ontop of the broken glass. the glass and bottom piece of plexie glass hold the weight while the top piece is used along with silocone sealant to keep all the water in. and dont let the ton of weight scare you too much because the weight is very well spread out and not all on just one point.

this is what i did for that 185 gallon and it worked perfectly, and it most likely will with the extra 125 gallons too

I have no clue how much a bottom panel will cost but those who know have poken.I still think you made out pretty good as I am looking to purchase a 300 pretty soon and being on the east coast I expect to pay at least a stack.Keep us posted on your progress.

I responded to you in your other post. I still concur with my first response, a patch just isn't going to cut it. The suggested patch and sketch that You was posted later...well, hate to sound rude, but no way would that work!

You "might" be able to patch it, then sell it as a reptile enclosure, but I would be sure to let potential buyers know the full details. You most likely won't get much for it...but, it's better than nothing

The good news is you are on your way to have filtration, etc. You could use any money from the sale and apply it towards another tank.

Sorry brother...I know how you must be feeling! I would be going nuts knowing I have a 300g tank that I can't use!

Just get a quote on plate glass. Tempered glass isn't necessary.
