Bought two senegals today`

Haha, i stop using those after my mum busted me... She caught me using it and im was doomed for eternal banishment from the kitchen.

Now I feed hikari sinking pellets. I just feeding them pellet by pellet. For each pellet they consume, I throw one more. I know this is a long and boring process but it helps with overfeeding. At most I would only overfeed by 3 pellets (3 bichirs).

But ill sneak into the kitchen occasionally to grab the slicer and feed an earthworm as a treat. 1 is enough. Somehow i like the way they response to those moving bits. They would poke it curiously and realise it is defenceless after sometime and STRIKE!

I tried the egg slicer...didn't work, the worms just bended around the wire, into the little plastic grooves. I just cut them with a knife...almost too big. The small one I thought was going to choke, cos he had it in the back of his mouth/front of his throat for a long time...but he seems to have gotten it down.

I just love these guys, I can't believe I didn't get them sooner! Why didn't anyone TELL ME!?!?!

I got one of those as well! but about 8 months ago... Mine kept jumping into my overflow so I had to construct a cover for it otherwise its a really neat little guy to watch!

I was just admiring my two guys, and have already started noticing slight differences between the two. Sorry the pictures are so grainy, I have a crapberry phone camera.

Bert is turning orange on his tail section, and is overall a lighter color than Ernie. He is also lacking the two "black" lines along the jaw-line. I'm not sure which one of them I like more.

Look at how fat Ernie's belly is. He's full of earthworm!

I just don't think they are going to take to these shrimp pellets.
Are these the same shrimp pellets that were mentioned before? They are really tiny, wish I had some change to show in the pic for a better reference.

I avoid pellet only diets. way to many times have I seen some bad cases of bloat because of them. I usually toss a few pellets to mine, then fill them up with bloodworms or nightcrawler peices. ( I use a fancy smancy finger nail trimmer thats like a tiny scissors.) They really put on size when I started adding nightcrawlers to their diet. I feed beefheart but very rarely ( about 1x a month)

I feed all my tiny bichirs 1mm Thera a pellets, there's never a chance of them choking on them and on occasion I give them cut up red worms. As they get bigger the pellet size goes up and their staple diet becomes chopped up tilapia.

Such things require speed. The moment you lay the worms flat onto the slicer, WHAM!!! A quick death.

I think I need another set of hands. Someone to hold the worm "taught" and the other person to WHAM! lol

They have both eaten. They both gave in once I fed bloodworms the first time. I just had to squirt them in front of Bert. They both ate some mysis shrimp while I was away today in Tulsa, and I fed them small pieces of nightcrawler when I got home. They both have a noticeable "lump" in their bellies. I love having fish that I can gorge without guilt!
