Id buy a group of marmokorebs (spelling) the self cloning ones and get a good population of those going in another tank instead of buyin crawdads every week.

Hmm I was just compairing your experiment with that picture you posted and I don't think anything like that is possible. How ever the video game analogy helped a little. I say gut load the feeders with NLS.!
Mike, good to see you doing it. would love to do this myself too but don't really have much time these days.
get a good current flow so it gets some decent exercise as well. I did noticed my juvie serra eats much more when I had lots of dither fish with it. get something with lots of fins as well as that's most part of the diet for small serra in the wild.
also make sure all the feeders you breed gets good exercise too, if they are all load with fat from flake/pellets feeding without burning the fat off it'll probably make your serra load up with fat too. it's like feeding the fat kids (from your video game example) to a tiger that tiger will eventually get fat too due to the high fat diet.
this defeats the whole purpose of the experiment.
what you are missing is while man made pellets have more balanced nutrient but the size vs calorie ratio can be very different than any natural food (such as live fish). since the pellets are much smaller and keepers tend to feed a lot more than what's really needed.
I might put these plans on hold til the importers get fresh shipments. Id like to do this with a manny, or even a slightly larger rhom. Something like 6". That way i dont gotta wait for it to grow past that tiny stage.
