It is BS I feel...and it also can mess up most people adding meds to the tank. On my 240gal its more like 217gal. If your dosing a tank for 240gallons with something that says dont overdose....you end up overdosing. Maybe not so much that it kills everything...but it does mislead the consumer I think. Since we talking about missleading the consumer...whats up with the darn fast food joints. On TV that burger is all nice n fluffy with some ripe juicy red tomatos and fixins. Then you get it and it looks like some fat ass in the back sat on it to heat it up and then jamed there thub through it for ****s-n-giggles lol. Ok rant over.....

I agree! or is it a conspiracy between the meds companies & tank producers so we use more meds up & they sell more "larger" tanks to appeal to the serious aquarist to make more you knows what??!!

I feed used & abused my 72 is really a 62 (btw I did fill to the brim & including the AC110 so comes to 62-63)

so what can we all do to get the companies to sell as filled volume vs. the outside measurements do the deception ceases!

but sometimes it goes the other way too.

eg. Aqueon calls their 72x24x24 tank a 180g (based on OUTSIDE dimensions)

but for some reason, they base their 150g and 210g on the INSIDE dimensions.

so keeping things consistent, their 150g (72x18x29.5) and 210g (72x24x29.5) should really be called a 165g and 220g respectively to keep things consistent when comparing these sizes to everything else out there...

works in our favor for these two sizes actually, since price wise their 150g is the same as everyone elses, yet its 2.5" taller or about 15g more. for the same price. everyone elses 150 is 27" tall, not 29.5 tall. yay.
is 29.5" tall including the trim? cant believe a 150g and i know the 210g are not the interior dimensions, that would make the tank wider and longer and not fit on their standard stands, which they do.

increase integrity and decrease selfishness/greed...

Good luck doing it but if you find a practical method I'll give you my vote for president...

how about we at MFK petition the industry to change their standards for measuring tank volume to discontinue mis-leading the public - a truth in advertising campaign.

nah, that wouldn't have any impact. the "TRUTH" commercials have little impact on smoking so how can Fish Issues make any news. HR669 is it?

have to get some nation wide attention but this isn't an issue that would catch anyone's eyes. Consumer Affairs or Consumer Reports or "shame on you" or......

I guess just have to settle for what I got & don't worry be happy... :( :irked:

Is there actually a gallon mark on your milk jugs or are you just estimating it?

the measurements are including the trim - but for the height of the tank the trim doesn't add anything - the extra height is because the glass itself is taller. I have measured the Aqueon 150 vs the Perfecto (Marineland) 150 and the Aqueon tank is 2.5" taller..but they still list it as a 150 - if you do the math on the INSIDE dimensions, the volume works out to about 151 gallons, which is where they get the size for the tank.

I own the Aqueon 150g and the actual outside dimensions are 72.5 x 18.5x 29.5.

it fits exactly on my 72x18" stand because the actual spot on the stand for the tank is 72.5 x 18.5.

the Aqueon 210 is listed the same way - based on the inside dimensions.

if it was based on the outside dimensions the tank would be listed as a 220 or 225..but they call it a 210.

none of our tanks hold as much water as the common nic name suggests... a standard 125 gal (72 x 18 x 21) holds at most 112 US gallons... and the outside measurements come out to 117 US Gallons...

I agree it is dishonest...

Now go measure the flow rates on your filters and let us know howe made that makes you ;)

Ya gotta love it when the manufacturers don't have to answer to anyone...
even measuring cups?
i have a acrylic container marked with liter lines it has 4, does that accurately measure the amount?

yes, of course! measuring cups are very accurate. & so are teaspoons & tablespoons!

it's fish tanks we be talkin about. it was to my disappointment that I discovered the "lost" gallonage since it appears I am the only one in aquaria world to fill by 1gal jugs & keep count! everyone else probably uses siphons & big buckets & not even think about how much it holds taking it for granted it is what they say it is! :>(

so now I wonder if a 55gal. regular tank is what 50gal?!

in fact when I look at my 20 gal & I look at my 13gal rubber maid garbage pail/laundry basket it looks like my pail can fill up the tank in one shot??!! :WHOA:

no, I'm not going to be that anal about this tank, I bought it as a starter.

it's the bowfront I am oh so perturbed!! :irked:

how many yrs has this been going on??!! :screwy:

probably a long time. you should contact bowfront and tell them you want a full refund or you will take them to court for misrepresentation.
Misrepresentation is a contract law concept. It means a false statement of fact made by one party to another party, which has the effect of inducing that party into the contract. For example, under certain circumstances, false statements or promises made by a seller of goods regarding the quality or nature of the product that the seller has may constitute misrepresentation. A finding of misrepresentation allows for a remedy of rescission and sometimes damages depending on the type of misrepresentation.

so you measure your tank by the trim dimensions? its the actuall outside GLASS dimensions on how tanks are rated. even aqueons site says the 150 is 72x18x29, now i'll give you the 2" in height because i have not physically measured an aqueon 150, but i used to own a perfecto 150 and the overall height was 29.5" including trim, the actuall height of the glass walls themselves were 27", just as stated on their site.

think aqueon is trying to pull a fast one by measuring the overall height of those 2 tanks, rather than the actuall glass height.
