i agree with most, except #3. i have a form of ADHD called non-attentive type, and i can tell you that it does make school tough for me and on days when i forget to take my meds it's almost impossible to get anything done
Well, I have been a parent for 8 years. I have noticed that some parent are just too lazy or plain dont give a crap about there kids. So when theres a problem, they run to the doctor, who will happily wright a script for Riddilin. This is in lue of working with the kid , spending more time, giving up there own personal things.

Except 3 and 4 I'm with you. The paddling by the principle was tried and besides having an absolute hatred for specific nuns and one Catholic school teacher I still want to see come to a horrible end had little effect on me. Making Billy replace the window and mow laws to do it makes more sense then whipping the kids ass, doesn't really fix the broken window now does it.

Only got smacked once by my parents and I pay more in taxes than the average American makes so I am a productive member of society by standard metrics. Most of the ones I knew got spanked are dead or doing time.

FTW - and yes i am a 1st grade teacher...lol

Jeffrey will not be still in class, he disrupts other students.

1957 - Jeffrey sent to the Principal’s office and given a good paddling by the Principal. He then returns to class, sits still and does not disrupt class again.

Perfectly to the point!

Scenario nr 2, however, can, iin 2009, very posssibly end with one student stabbing the other before the police arrive...

sorry state of affairs.

yes the good old days..

That's messed up. the fighting one hits close to home. I had a buddy that got jumped in school. and got two teeth knocked out. When the dust settled. both kids ended up with juvie records and suspeneded. And my buddy's parents got stuck with the bill to put his teeth back in his head simply b/c he fought back.

ADHD and other issues are a strong contraindication to paddling. I was paddled relentlessly and it had no positive effect until I was old enough to know better anyway. But I've seen it work with children who can sit and think long enough to tie cause to effect. Every case is different (just like the previous generation, yes) so while one child suffers, another might benefit from the same discipline. Go fig. But it is true that my generation was raised to whine. I even make myself sick sometimes with my own whining. It's very silly.

Nic, are you sure you are ADH...wanna go play outside?! A squirrel! Wait, I have to do something else first...what was I about to say???
