brachyplatystoma rousseauxii Grow out thread.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Still here, growing very slowly. Upgrade of the next few days for this guy. Hoping that will help him.

I’ve recently read quite an interesting read about bratchyplatosoma and sea food, eg. Prawns/ mussles. Apparently, there quite deadly, was Abit sceptical at first, but how many times do you see a big one in captivity. It could quite possibly explain the sudden deaths. so I’ve changes them over onto earth worms for now. I shall try to convert them into pellets.

You are probably referring to T1KARMANN's tig woes and theories. AFAIK, this phenomenon of acute deleterious reaction to shrimp or mussels is confined to tigs and does not occur with other Brachyplatystoma species outside of the usual thiaminase issues.

I just want to share my guy at 8.5" i got him last july 19 @ 6". He's become remarklaby thick since i first got him. I feed him market prawns twice a day. Snout's still in perfect condition cause i keep him solo

Are you saying 2.5" in 14 months? If so, that's about what I see with mine, a few inches a year while feeding well. So, no, Rpul, you ain't alone :)

just measured him today. Turns out he's already 9". I got him at 19th of july this year so he's been in my care for almost 2 months now. Growthwise i'd say mine grows about an inch and a half per month :)

Great! I am glad there may be some out there that grow better and faster. Do you have a thread on your fish? If not, I'd recommend creating one (as this one is about Rpul's fish) and updating it every now and then. I really wonder what growth you will have seen in a year.

He’s recently ate a none food
Object, first time I’ve ever had a catfish do this to me.

Threw it up after 9/10 days. Back eating now. Did start to worry.
Turned out to be an evolution aqua pomp bomb ball, out of all things!

That's a rarity in my experience. None of my Brachies ever ate anything inedible. It is often not easy to get them to eat edible things. The only fish that I know for sure have done it in my "care" are RTC, if memory serves.

Yes. Just my luck I thought. Never had it happen before, then one of the most delicate fish decided to eat something. But still, it’s back up and he’s eatting fine. Just another lesson leant I guess, I’ll keep them in a small bag next time to avoid this happening again.

Forgot to say, I lost the roussixii. Will try again once I can get some more.
My sympathies, man. That always sucks.

Tell us how, if you will, so we all learn together. Pretty please. I show you all mine.

Or was it from that pH crash / ammonia spike that sickened the piraiba?

Yes bud, it was the tank crash whilst away. Another one of life’s great padgents as they say.
