I keep them in my F8 tank for algae comtrol. Sailfins will pick on F8s though. The puffers eat their fry.
HAHA So the Sailfins pick on the F8s but then the F8s eat their fry....Can we say Poetic Justice?
Not exactly--I keep regular mollies & the puffers eat their fry--some of the adults too but some fry always seem to escape pufferteeth well enough to grow into adulthood & multiply some more. Sailfins didn't last long enough in there to multiply, when I saw my puffers hiding.
You can't just put some ammonia in. You need to add enough to make it test out at 5. Count the drops (or tsps) necesssary for that, because you are going tu cut that in half. Otherwise, you won't have the right amount of bacteria to stock your tank.
Ok so I went today to the LFS and I bought 2 Figure 8 Puffers and 2 more Mollies.
It was a bit more complicated acclimating the Figure 8 Puffers... They came from the LFS with a SG of 1.005 and my tank is at 1.002. So I had to drip acclimate them from the correct SG to my tanks Low SG HAHA lol.
I have to say, these pair of Figure 8 Puffers are crazy! They are evil!!!! They team up like little ghouls and chase the Mollies are pester them all the time. When they split up and go their seperate ways the Mollies come and retaliate and chase them, then sometimes they turn on each other and chase each other and then team up again on the Mollies .. Its pretty funny....
I got them to eat before....I put in some flake food and they ran up to the surface and devoured the flakes......
They look like adorable little demons....
