I had read 14 months, but Im looking into the minnows, would one bluegill help keep the minnow population down some.
It depends on how many minnows and how big of a bluegill. In a 250g I would say yes.....a really aggressive Bluegill over time might kill all your minnows.

Ive got a couple spare 10 gallons so Ill keep a few breeding in both of those and then have another hundred in the pond, as they get killed Ill just replace it and I may make a nusery tank above the real pond and keep a handful in there.

to be honest I dont know Ive never kept Bluegills, I do know that Bluegills have a smaller mouth than Green sunnies do, and eat more insects than minnows in the wild so my guess would be they would eat more worms and crickets than minnows (but I could be wrong). I pellet trained my Greens ( I believe thats the easiest and cheapest way to feed them) and then would supplement their pellets with Rosies and Scuds I bred in their own tanks. I would also buy small crickets and Bloodworms from the pet store. They got a treat a couple times a week of live food (one of the above) all the rest of the time I gave them cichlid pellets.

Green Sunfish are the Green Terrors of the North American Native fish world. IF you have the correct male to female ratio (more females than males)......yes; but if you house them together in a 39g like I tried, no. I dont know the footprint (dimensions) of your 250g. but if you have structure in your pond to break up the territories you could have several Green Sunfish in your 250g., thats a nice size for large sunnies. I would also recommend some tough dither fish like Stonecats or Golden Shiners if you keep Green sunnies (or Yellow Bullheads as long as your Greens are larger than the Yellows). If your wanting a native Sunfish that eats minnows Warmouth are more peacefull and also a good option.

Thanks, My first choice in a brown bullhead. My pond is 4 by 7 on the top half and 3 by 2 on the bottom. My worry with the bullhead in puncturing the liner with its barbs. With them Id keep rosy reds as feeders for once a week and carnivore pellets for the other feedings.

That'll work, In a 250g you could keep any of the above....some Brown Bullheads have a spotted pattern thats pretty cool looking, look at Rays of Sunshines posts and she has hers in some videos.
