I personally know Yellow bullheads spawn on sand but brown an black bullheads spawn on mud. I'd catch hundreds of yellow bullheads spawning on a sand bar in late april.

Still after the bullheads but if I can't get the ones I want I may just throw in the towel and get a bunch of tadpole madtoms and see what happens. At this point I'm just tired of having an empty tank sitting around and want to get something​ into it, lol.
If you did get a bullhead to have fry what would you feed the fry? I'm not trying to breed them at this point since Earl likes to be alone
They'll probably eat anything. I'd first get them on baby Artemia then get them on to powdered flake.

Inquire about bullhead species offered for sale to confirm they are melas. No response for a week. Inquire again. A week later get a response. Read through long-winded email to find that they didn't even answer the only question I asked in my first two emails.

Sure sure he will, soon. The vast majority of natives are annual spawners so he's probably just waiting to rear last years batch into a profitable size. Or he's waiting for this years spawn.
