Breeding feeders for Dovii

I'm sure someone will go into more detail about this. You can't compare the diet of a wild Dovii to a captive one. Sure a portion of their diet contains other fish but these "feeders" also contain none of the natural diet that their wild counterparts would. This is where a lot of the nutrition comes from. Even species such as yours benefit from the greenery that their prey consume. It is far better for our pets to be fed a high quality pellet as a staple.

RD is MFK's resident grouch, who also happens to be an expert on nearly everything. He is going to give you a speech about how mammalian and/or terrestrial meat is bad for your fish, how feeders have no nutritional value, and how "a good, quality pellet" is all you should ever feed your fish, maybe with a little nori on the side.
IMO, you are feeding your fish well, and whether or not feeders serve any purpose they are a lot of fun.
 
Nothing wrong with feeders, as long as one grows their own (for disease free sake), and gut feeds them with a nutrient dense pellet right before the slaughter. Beef heart is No Bueno.

I agree. But I like to hear all opinions. What Raven said makes sense. That's why I'm here. Lol. I'll take all the advice I can get.
 
Search the forum, and add my user ID into the search. Should be self explanatory, but I guess not. Short & sweet version, incorrect type of fatty acids. In the wild, carnivorous fish do not eat cows, they eat fish.

Carnivorous fish eat not only fish, but amphibians, birds, reptiles and mammals of many types. Processed pellets are probably a rarity in the wild for carnivorous fish to eat

A high quality nutrient dense pellet is designed for optimum nutrition for a fish, with the correct type & balance of amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. Beef and the fat from beef is not properly assimilated or utilized by fish, hence they tend to accumulate excess over their lifetime.

You should take this discussion to simplydiscus on beefheart..If you haven't already
Telling us here your personal experience with feeding beefheart and what happened to the fish when he got sick or died prematurely instead of all the old links of the "professionals" from "practical fish keeping" etc would be more beneficial imo
