im new here and everytime my females give birth they die right around 1 month old. 3 cycles and 4 females later not successful. i give up already

Gettin live bearer fry past the 1st month shouldn't be a problem. Are you separating the fry - do they have their own tank? Two things come to mind - water quality and feeding regime. If your water is fine and clean, then maybe its the food. Luckily, livebearer fry are easy to feed - they can take most foods that the adults will eat, only smaller sized! Powdred flake, baby brine shrimp and sieved daphnia work great with mine. Sieve the daphnia to remove the big ones so you can feed the smallest ones to your fry - they love it. Fry are similar to any baby animal - they need fed little, but often. If they havn't eaten the food within a couple of minutes, you've fed them too much.

I'm sittin with over 100 platy fry from about 5 different broods, all doing well, the oldest are about 3 months now and some of them are expecting their own babies!

Good luck, it's great being a parent!

thanks for the advice but i wasn't seperating them. i dont have the space or money right now. i will look into that in the future. the net breeders suck. i tried and nothing. i got better results by just leaving them in there with the oversized gem rocks. they fit through and swim under the rocks no prob. the bigger fish cant get to them. only problem i ran into was all the extra fry threw the balance of the tank off. my water got murky and i started to get lathargic fish. im going to invest in a 5g tank. that suffeicient?

What size is your current set up? And what fish are you keeping in there? How many guppies - males and females?

i have a 15g tank with an assortmant of tuxedos, moscows, and regular guppies. 12 males and 4 females. i also have 4 mickey mouse platy 2-4month olds that i am growing out before i move them to the big tank. 2 kuhli loaches clean up the bottom of the gravel.

So, have the fry been dying or have ALL those male guppies been eating them...?! You kinda got the male / female ratio back to front there! Could be that the females are getting so stressed from the attention of all those males that their fry are being born prematurely. Best bet, until you get another tank, is to get a bunch of floating/fine leaved plants in there for the females and the fry to take refuge in. I know female guppies aren't as nice to look at as males, but if you DO want to produce fry, you really need more girls and less boys!
You shoudn't get too many problems from your young platies. For some reason, they don't seem to bother fry as much as other fish do. I've got a BIG female in my fry tank and she doesn't go near even the tiniest fry (there's a couple of guppy fry in there too).
Hope this helps.

And BTW, I know what you mean about the net breeders - I just let mine get born in whatever tank they are in, rescue them from where they are hiding and transfer them to my fry tank.

Here's where they live!

actually my males weren't the perps eating the fry, nor the platies. it was the females........and i see what you saying about the ratio........1 female getting poked by 4 males at the same time is probably a lot of stress lol..........i bought i tiny 1 g for fry. i couldn't find a filter small enough so i am running a undergravel with air pump. its cycled and ready to go just waiting on the mommas.

BTW if anyone was interested should be anyday imma keep ya'll posted so you can help me out thanks everyone.........
