Breeding jack dempseys

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They look normal to me. The yellowish colorization is from the light color gravel they are on. Put them on dark gravel and it will bring out the blue with a darker overall color. I`ve never had Dempsies breed at less than three and a half inches.
wish i wouldve known this sooner kinda late for dark gravel hahahha

actually wish i wouldve gone with dark sand to bad its to late :/

Agree 100% on the dark substrate. I got my 4 JDs around 4" and first set the tank up like a quarantine tank with no substrate. When I added black sand they darkened up ... and I mean really darkened up!

I removed almost all the large gravel from my oscar tank a couple years back and using a square container maybe 7 x 4" which came with small holes in it so the water ran out. Also, something shaped like a scoop or dust pan.

Gravel vac before so you don't stir up too much. Drop the water level about halfway then scoop them out.

Black gravel is also good.

im just kinda worried about stressing them out to much doing this, ive only had them for like a week

When you change the water. Order the python no spill water changer or buy the aqueon water changer. It hooks to a faucet and makes changing the water and very easy. Order from amazon, ebay, ect.

Try to change 50% every couple weeks. Use Prime declorinator.
