Brevis African Tiger Fish Update

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Forskahlii's only have red on the bottom half of the tail like H. goliaths. Body & head structure seems to be the easiest way to tell them apart, then again it's only easy if u owned both at the same time. As for the op atf, i also believe its a Brevis or undescribed sub species though im leaning towards brevis. Head structure is a dead give away seeing how its curved down along with its back & where the belly is down towards the tail is flat, that being said only species with that characteristic is H. Brevis. Through first hand experience Fatf & Vatf body structure is almost symmectrical, difference is the fatf body is much more slender.

Pictures are hard to take of him because of him constantly moving but I thought I should post a quick update. I have been revamping filtration on the big tank and last week when I was working over the tank with one of the lids off he decided to jump out. I was able to net him off the ground and get him back in the tank quickly thank god and he is bouncing back very quickly.

He is substantially larger than I thought from observing him behind the glass. When I was getting him off the ground and back into the tank he was at least 13". Much larger (and stronger) than I thought.

Still recovering but hes getting close to 100%.

Thanks good to hear. Hes never jumped out before so hopefully this is the first and last time haha.

Glad to hear there was no damage to him, he's looking like he has put more gurth on now so that must be really pleasing for you

Thanks. Yea a few scales missing that healed within days. Last night he looked better than ever. Flying around the tank and eating well.

I have been working for the past month on a big filtration upgrade for his tank and finally have it fully tested and installed as of last night. He should be one very happy & healthy fish!

Nice Brevis! How about a feeding Vid? I miss the Speed these guys eat at!!!

Haha I'll try and get one tonight. He only eats right before lights out. Sometimes its hard just getting the food in there and making sure he doesn't hurt himself or anyone else lol.

Did my best to try and film it last night. Here you go West haha.

Ill work on getting a better one I normally only light one half of the tank so he was a little cautious when i turned everything on to take the video.

Here is an old pic of mu Vittatus ATF when he was about 12" I think.

Beast mode when feeding:headbang2
W/Pellets he would almost swirl around in laps to collect all he could... sweet sight to see:drool:
