I would put it down...It is your choice of course, but if its eating less and cannot move its back end, I would say he is going to be suffering and it would be hard to make him do that for years to come. I agree the bigger tank could have caused him to get up enough force to break his back off the glass. If he is at this state right now and appears as though he will not recover my opinion is he will be best euthenized.

yeah...often times with a broken back, the more they try to swim the worse the damages become. it doesnt look good at all for the gar.

IMO I would kill it. Imagine your back being broken and only moving 1/3 of your body....

i dont know about that...there are tons of people paralysed waist down i dont think many of them wished they had died instead. and even here the gar might almost fuly recover.

Yes, but paralysed people have meds, therapy, etc. This fish is feeling the pain of its broken back with every inch that it tries to swim in addition to eating less....

it really brings out the debate about mercy killing

on that note we should probably just let him make the decision and not get the thread closed. these topics always seem to get out of hand.

Actually, its seems to be only a third as active as before. It moves 3/4 of its body just fine. its just the tail, but its enough to get me thinking about killing it.
Not that I have decided, How would I go about doing it?

donT make that fish suffer! I'ts the right thing to put it to sleep
