having a slight issue with brown algae having to clean it off plants and rocks every couple of weeks, isn’t showing any sign of slowing down or anything, can anyone offer me any advice on how to control and prevent it?

Will be testing the water with the API test kit later to see where my nitrate levels are at this week although there were quite low as was ammonia and nitrite.

I’m not over feeding and any food not consumed is fished out .

It’s a 60 litre Planted Aquarium housing one Channa Pulchra (grow out tank)

Thanks in advance!

If its what im thinking about, then it could be caused from high silicates in the water...

Scrub and get those water changes going.

if u live in farm country like I do, its probably high phosphates and silicates in ur water from farmers spreading fertilizers. I go through it every fall and spring here from my well water. I cant stand buying water for WC's so I just battle it. I have found phosphate removers along with sechems "pristine" to be working wonders for me.

Not sure if any plecos will survive with Channa species.

Yeah I think silicates are the problem here, I have done massive water changes throughout the past few weeks (Channa don’t like this) so the problem must be silicates, what would you suggest to do??

There are supposedly filter pads you can get that help remove some of it... but i’ve never tried it so cant say if it works...

Do you know where I can get some??

Also found this on eBay which says it removes phosphates and Silicate
