I found phosgaurd didn't work so well for me and I luv seachem. what worked for me was a blend of https://www.amazon.com/RP-50-ROWAphos-Phosphate-Removal-Media/dp/B002NPY6U0 and https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=API+phoszorb mixed together in a very fine mesh media bag such as seachems "the bag". the api phoszorb is much better at silicate removal than the rowa phoslock. as the rowa is better at phosphate removal. I had a minor vortex diatom filter spill in that tank also and wound up with some silicates in my gravel from the diatom powder and to my extreme surprise, the seachem pristine ate the crap outta it and was gone in a few weeks. brown algae is now dissipated completely for me now. I still need the rowa phos removal for now till the runoff from the fields is done and my well water tests clean of phosphates again. but my tank and plants are spotless again. back to just simple water changes and filter cleanings on that tank again thank god!!!!!

I could be wrong but my understanding is brown algae is diatoms

I agree get a bristlenose and they will slurp it up like Jell-O

Can’t do that unfortunately as the tank is subtropical and sits at 17-18 degrees at the moment, also It’s not advised to mix snakeheads with any other fish
