hmmmm odd, i have my lights on a timer set to about 10-12 hours a day depending on if/when i switch it to the blue moon lights. If its seen in new tanks frequently, does that mean it'll go away on its own after some time? Or does it have to be physically removed?I’d say brown algae. Assoc with low lights levels. Seen in new tank frequently.
It’s gotta be physically removed. When I mean low lights...means ur other plants aren’t growing to outcompete the brown algae.hmmmm odd, i have my lights on a timer set to about 10-12 hours a day depending on if/when i switch it to the blue moon lights. Would add a few at a time. Maybe 3 plants for now. Adding to many will strip the water and Youll need fertz.Oh ok...yeah I only have 3 small narrow leaf java fern in there...I’m brand new to live plants so I wanted to start slow. So adding more will help? Should I double it up to 6 or 7 live plants?
Ok, and more java fern is ok? Or is there something else that would be more effective?Would add a few at a time. Maybe 3 plants for now. Adding to many will strip the water and Youll need fertz.
Java fern is fine to add. Not a needy plant and with minimum care. Could instead add hornwort or wisteria which are fast growers and will outcompete brown algae for nutrients. Same for wisteria and hornwort, in regard to not needing a lot of care.Ok, and more java fern is ok? Or is there something else that would be more effective?
Thanks! Of course I went to my 2 closest LFS and neither had Hornwort or wisteria. They did have narrow leaf java which is what I have, but I wouldn’t mind something different if possible. I’d prefer something not too “full” so it doesn’t take up too much open swimming space.Java fern is fine to add. Not a needy plant and with minimum care.
