So I have a 90 gallon aquarium that has a brownish tint to the water . There is no driftwood and I don’t feed massivore to that tank. The tank crashed about 2 months ago because I was having issues with one of the HOB filters . Foolishly I just removed the filter thinking the other two filters would hold things down. I now have a sun sun canister filter (brand new) for about a month. I used turbo start and an old sponge filter from my 125. I moved my red devil, Oscar, jag, jack dempsey, and 3 red hooks all fish around 5-7 inches, to a different tank. I moved a different batch over there after about a month to space some of my monsters out- Does anyone have an idea what it could be ? I’ve done back to back large 75% water changes and that seems to help some but I want to know what the issue is so I can resolve the matter. Any help would be greatly

Current stock list - red tail catfish (15-16 inches) pacu (15 inches) Oscar fish (9 inches) arrowana ( maybe8-9 inches) and a 7 inch common pleco.

Ijust feed the tank about an hr ago so I know if I test the water it will be all out of wack.

everyone is Eating and behavior normally.

Gorgeous tank. Maybe when the filters failed it slowly started to have a build up of waste. Bio load in that should should be higher than anyone wants. Add more filters, cutdown on stock, or upgrade tank are the only things I can suggest. The tanks going to have a hard time recovering

That's a very heavily stocked 90g tank to be honest I'm not surprised it's not looking great. At the size of some of these fish now they need much bigger accommodation I would say your filters are struggling with the size of the load it has to deal with, you will also have to feed a fair bit to keep them well fed in which case there also going to produce a fair amount of waste.

These fish need big space and powerful filters I don't think it's possible to fully provide them things in this size of a tank.

What the above guy said. The brown water is from the heavy stock list that eats and poops a lot. In other words, your tank is under filtered
What happened was I think that the filters were doing just enough work to keep it clear and clean but then as soon as one filter failed then it all started going downhill.

Thanks brother! Yea I’m going to order another canister filter now that you mentioned it. I was very focused on the biological filtration but I bet heavier mechanical filtration should clean it right up. They keep knocking off the inlets to HOB filters so I’m hoping in time that will correct the issues. Thanks for the advice!

Absurdly Inadequately sized tank + off the scale bioload = poor quality water.

Realistically that tank is only fit for your Oscar.

You have a lot to think about.

Don’t suggest keeping them in this sized tank. Fish are going to start dropping like flies if you don’t upgrade or rehome. I know from experience
