Brown water issues

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What happened was I think that the filters were doing just enough work to keep it clear and clean but then as soon as one filter failed then it all started going downhill.
That was the case when he had smaller fish I there but losing a filter then adding monsters is what's caused this problem.

Thanks brother! Yea I’m going to order another canister filter now that you mentioned it. I was very focused on the biological filtration but I bet heavier mechanical filtration should clean it right up. They keep knocking off the inlets to HOB filters so I’m hoping in time that will correct the issues. Thanks for the advice!
Another filter won't fix the issue it may at first but then another inch of growth and you will be right back hear. You need to rehome some fish even if the waters good no fish should have to bounce off of every piece of glass on its usual swim round.

No offence but this tank is all kinds of wrong.

Agreed, I figured they would be good since I had the same sunsun on a larger tank that they were in and that sun sun does great. So I said hey, less fish should be fine but I guess I was wrong. I’m going to order another one and have 2 going on a 90. You think maybe less water means a higher concentration of detritus? And the pacu has grown a bunch in that month

+1. I’ve been here. It’s not fun but trust me. After you get a good suitable stock it’ll be a lot better than what you currently have.

Why not move them back to the larger tank?

None taken, I agree ! This is a temporary set up until we move to our house. We have about 6 months left and the move is happening- primarily because I want huge tanks lol. Fingers crossed it lasts that long , if not I have a contingency plan..

I’ve been considering this, I just didn’t like my red tail being in competition with the channel cats. I may have to do a overhaul and move my 125 community fish to the 90 and move these guys over. We’ll see. We are moving soon and getting 2 500s or a 1000 gallon soon so just trying to make due until then

That's good to hear atleast your not trying to justify why there fine in this tank ?.

I think your going to struggle to keep them this way for 6 months even if you manage to keep the water good just the stress of the confined space may cause immune system problems.

I fully understand you not wanting to let fish go is there no way to temporarily rehome them untill you get moved and set up.

The 125 would be better but still not ideal in the long run.

These fish have some potential to pack on a bit more size in the next 6 months.

Personally I feel your going to have problems in them 6 months with current stock levels and tank sizes.

Absurdly Inadequately sized tank + off the scale bioload = poor quality water.

Realistically that tank is only fit for your Oscar.

You have a lot to think about.
Yea this is temporary until we move, I’m going to slap another canister filter on there and hope for the best until then. I’m getting 2 500s or a 1000 haven’t decided yet but they’ll be good to go. Thank you for your feedback!
