well the thing is,Ive been waiting for the Bts to be up these months but something keeps haunting me.Ive always loved monitors so much but dont want one that gets huge so I really like the ackies. From what I gather, they become docile with work.I want something of their size that will tame down to handeling that will seem really like having a pet mor than just a display herp.Ive got lots of years under my belt but have only kept a savanah as far as the monitors. That was long ago and I traded him for a 55 gal with fish. Were talkin 15 years ago.Anyways,I here good about the bts and do want one but I really like the ackies though I dont know as much on them. The bts might be easier to feed since it eats so much of anything.Whats my ups and downs or what would some of you guys with more time in this like me do here?Ive got enough of the regular herps,I just want one more that will be like the big mascot you know.

With varanids and teiids, you will know it will eat its food; they NEED to eat. With Blue-tongued Skink, sometimes they they will go off feed for awhile, and picky eaters is commonplace with captive Blue-tongued. However skinks in general don't need as much room as teiids of the same size, or in case of monitor-Blue-tongued comparsion... BTS needs less space than a small monitor.

The two species which you are trying to compare J are totally different one is very active and the other is more calm and slow moving. If youre looking to get something that is more passive go with the bt, if you want something more active and entertaining go with the ackie.

Not disagreeing with you, I DO agree with you... it just I am going to laugh here.

Too bad my Blue-tongued Skink THINKS he's an ackie... Only he never seem to move as fast as HE WANT to.

Ah, you gotta love reptile's weird individual quirks.

You can use a 40 watt as long as its closer to the animal it will reach those temps and your electric bill will be better! :) Thats just for the basking area, 80's to 70's ambient. Read the sticky above about ackies.
