Building a 1500 Gallon plywood & glass tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the 180's are too high. i think lowering them will be your only real fix for this one. but don't forget lowering them will allow for more water to overflow in case of a power outage so your sump will have to be taller, bigger all together, need an overflow of its own but that could cause problemsfor the restart, or run the sump much lower.

Here are the updated changes for today..

Got the T and valve in for the wet/dry section and will let you know if this new layout works or not in about 30 mins....

I sure hope so as I am fresh out of ideas.... And a bigger taller sump is not an option I want to even consider.

Ok, was closer than ever...

The diversion is already fully opened.

It would run but the tank level was still too high for my taste (1/2" from the top) and then the sump barley kept up with the proper water level. So my logic now is if I drop the 2nd drain to the same level as the other one, then the tank will not be as high and the sump will then in turn have more water to work with.

Will update you in an hour after I rip and replace the mid level drain.

Running out of time so this better work.

It's not falling on deaf ears. He already lowered one, but the other one requires a complete rework to lower. The diversion allows some throttlling on the pump without creating backpressure, but I would have gone the same size as the output pipe to the tank not smaller. It was an attempt to avoid having to rework the mid-water intake. As with a lot of things, it probably will take a combination of things to get it to handle the flow.

Rebuild of the mid level drain was a complete success. Cost $12 but turned out to be worth it.

Started the pump and the lank level is now at 1.5" from the top (Which I can live with) and the sump is keeping up the hammerhead now.

Yeah!

Not too crazy about the max water level while running (About 8" from the bottom) but I can live with that as well. Sometime in the future if I decided to make the sump another foot taller then at least I will have that option later on.

Temp is already up to 65 so I may be able to start adding fish mid week. Once the temp gets up to about 80 then I can arrange the sand, rocks, and stuff in the tank.

And I went with a smaller diversion line because I already have 1.5" lines already built from the previous setup.
