Building a 1500 Gallon plywood & glass tank

i like the idea of going higher, just cause of the extra wiggle room and time between top offs. all support should go on the outside of the joint between the new sump and the old, it will make it much easier to seel.

If you use that sleeve design for the wall with the instructions I gave, you get the water pressure holding it together instead of trying to push it apart.

Either way works, but wouldn't you need to add a cross brace on that big of a sump if you went with the support on the outside?

Oh, good, I was about to restructure my whole MFK code of ethics. Whew.

VL - how is it, wading around to do maintenance on your tank? I think I'll find out when I finish my 600, I'm just debating whether to get myself some water shoes, or bag it and send in the kids to do the dirty work

i think the dividers will go up into the new section won't they? so they would be the crossbraces.

This is an amazing build and has inspired me to begin buttering up my wife now so that I can build one of these in the garage in a year or so. You should publish your notes on this man. I'd pay $5 for a complete layout start to finish and a bill of material.

When I first read that I thought you said BATTERING up your wife... wasn't sure if you meant rolling her in pancake mix or beating her up. Buttering makes much more sense.

Updates:
New plexi tops are installed
Temp is up to 78F so I can start adding fish
Glass is still dirty on the inside and will be cleaned when I arrange the sand & rocks
Picked up the plywood today for the sump extention
Picked up the drywall to finish the front

Will update the pictures later after I get home fom work.
