Building a 1500 Gallon plywood & glass tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
second thought, would a herd of clown loaches + a stingray be a good idea?

How bout an update Rich?

New sump changes worked out perfect. That means I can move my current sump contents over to the new sump tonight and have those ready without issue or concerns of needing them again. (Good news for DB)

Bad news for me is the bulkhead still leaks. I am getting the silicone grease today after work and will try that tonight as well. Will now know if it still leaks until tomorrow due to the slowness of the leak.

It's possible the area under the bulkhead has a drip of somekind from the pond armor that I didn't notice, so after taking out the bulkhead to apply the grease I will make sure it's smooth under there. If not I will sand it down and make it smoother if needed.

That is all.

As a last resort if that bulkhead continues to leak you could always use some DOW 832 or some sikaflex to seal it in place. Silicone generally won't bond well to plastics, but both those compounds are designed for bonding epoxies, fiberglass, and plastics together.

Better get that sucka fixxed Rich!!! I WILL NOT take those sumps from you till I KNOW YOUR monster is 110% good to go. All my fish can stay in the pond like they are now.... AKA I don't NEED the sumps. It would be nice to get my 300 goin but it's been 2 months allready.... What's another one? LOL

PS..... My vote for the root cause is a rough or uneven sealing surface under the bulkhead fitting.

Leak stopped!

After using an entire (Tiny cup) of grease and a few extra turns on the nut I woke up this morning to a dry floor.

Back on track.

Will complete the fill after work, dive in the tank to clean the walls and inside glass (Dirty from all the draining and filling), rearrange the sand and rocks and get this thing running full bore. Will update pictures this weekend. If all goes good I will hang the front drywall as well.

Sounds good. I have a question though will you eventually have to grease it again? Not sure how fast silicone grease breaks down, just curious. Looking really good. All these monster tanks getting finished gives me a new boost of git-r-done!:headbang2

The grease is just to aid in assembly. It allows the bulkhead fitting to slip on the gasket.

Think of spitting on a needle before filling a basketball or football. Same principle.

Rich you're the man!!!!!
