that will be taken care of. I need to know what size overflow(s) to make especially

On my 150, I run a little higher GPH, but I think it's close. One 1in pvc overflow doesn't keep up, so I use Two 1in overflows and they work fine. I would recomend Two for you to stay on the safe side.

I should be able to lower it some w/o too many problems. like i said, it's temp and I can make it larger in the future but i'm running out of time right now.

i can prob do that w/o spending a whole lot. bigger is better in this case.

I have all of next week off, so I'm going to redo the media chamber. I have access to some more free plexi, so all I'll have to pay for is materials for the overflows. I can still use the same drip plate but make another to add onto it or maybe I won't even extend it. Will that be okay? I'm sick to death of this cloudy water, but as long as the parameters are still good, I guess I don't have anything to worry about.

bump, so if I expand the media chamber, lower the filter sock holder and make 2 x 1" overflows, will that work? will there be anything else I'll need to do?

Um i'm pretty sure on your diy overflow the check valve is in the wrong place.

someone else may be able to correct me on the overflows, but from the design you have setup there, it looks as though you would have a siphon in lieu of an actual overflow. I think you need another section of pipe in order for it to work and not overflow your sump in a power outage.

Also, your check valve should be located on the bend that hangs over the tank. that is where you will need to remove the air from.
