Building a 9'x25' pond

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That is a great pond! Thanks for posting all the way through with pics. I would like to build a little pond, but I don't think my HOA will go for it, since they won't even let me change the basket weave fence to a privacy.

sick pond, informative thread. updates on the filtration?????

this is a great thread!!!!! it gave me a great way to kill time at work! please keep us updated. i have spent so much time looking at the thread and following your progress that I feel like the pond is mine too .... I would love one of my own but I live to far up north (at least I think so) to bother with fish outside.

What USDA Zone are you?

Koi and goldfish can live as far north as Minnesota (Zone 4).

I live in Chicagoland and keep and maintain ponds in temps. that reach 20 below w/o windchill.

A little knowledge and planning and anything is possible.

The pond is pretty much just riding out the winter. The fish are basically hanging out waiting for it to warm up. I got tired of the cold and convinced kate to let me start a new water :naughty: project. After looking for a couple weeks I found a pretty good deal on a used hot tub. Started out looking for something simple, but kind of like the pond once I get an idea the plans keep growing. So our small 2 person spa we talked about getting turned into a 6 man that required going back under the deck to add 10 more posts and now running a 220v 60 amp service from 80' away in the garage. It sits in the corner where we had the screenhouse last summer pretty nicely and I plan on building an elevated deck/stairs around it on 3 sides. So in another week or so I will be able to watch the fish in their 40 deg water from my 104 deg water:headbang2

Moving it was a little interesting as it weighs around 800lbs empty. I rented a flatbed and had a few friends to help. Figured it would be a good test for my bridge with about 1500lbs on it at one time. Luckily it worked out and no one went swimming.

I know you dont remember me, but the last time I logged onto this site you had just started digging a messy hole in the back yard.

Well today I was looking around the internet and I for some reason remembered your starting to build a pond and I went looking to see how you were doing?

I am stunned....

Glad to see the bridge held up:D

Nice setup you got there! I was paying attention to the post dates and progress. It seems like you were also working during that heat wave we had this past summer. man was a it brutal!
