Building a 9'x25' pond

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am sooooo jealous! Then I saw the screen and computer by the hottub and now I am in awe! Your wife must be amazing to let you run wild with your fantasies and she must realize how lucky she is to be married to someone with an unbelievable imagination and the ability to act on it and carry it through.

May you both share many years of pleasure from your backyard!

Thanks. Kate trust me pretty well, she knows I won't sleep until a project is finished. The hot tub was an easy sell to her, it didn't involve 6 months of muddy dogs.

I have to catch up Yanbbrox now, he actually has Koi in his pond. I am excited to have fish in it this summer. I had two nice Butterfly koi, but unless they grew wings something got them about 2 months ago. I had a few little koi last fall and put them in my class tank, thought they would be huge by now, but they only grew about 2". Probably won't bring them home until late May. The sunfish suprisingly look like they did grow over the winter in the pond.

Looks like a great swimming pool for your Jack's

Only when they are not paying attention and come around the corner too fast:)

We are expecting another litter of pups literally any day now so mamma Chaos is slowed back down again.

How did you bribe the wife to let you do this? :D :D j/k

When I build my pond, I want your help! EXCELLENT WORK!

...and I actually saw one the other day, only briefly, got to get these filters fired up asap;)

The canopy reminds me of college....

We had a buddy w/a tent set-up in his dorm room.
All kinds of debauchery to be had.

Well done. The flat panel, priceless.

Well the most expensive single item for the pond popped up yesterday....

My yellow belly slider disappeared last August. After a weeks of looking I had given her up to an osprey or some other predator. I had told Kate maybe she would show back up in the spring, while I knew the odds of a domestic turtle surviving our cold winter without a proper hibernation spot was slim. Sure enough yesterday morning it warmed up, the sun was shining, and looking out from under the deck was a turtle head! I was speechless. She was covered in mud so I brushed the leaves off her and set up a quick 10 gallon tank and heat light. When rinsing her off I noticed her front foot looked a little odd tucked under the shell. Then when I put her in the tank to swim it was obvious there was a problem. I pulled her back out of the water for an examination and found she has an old compound fracture of her front leg with the bones still visible. No clue how it could have happened. Usually their legs are pretty well protected. I am thinking she got herself wedged somewhere uncomfortable.

I called around to find a good herp vet and made an appointment earlier this afternoon. When I arrived I recognized the veterinarian right away, I have been teaching her son for the past 3 years! After examinig it she concurred the only option is surgery to amputate the leg, so she is taking care of it. The "general" has had quite an ordeal over the past 6 months survivning freezing temps with only 3 legs. Hopefully it is an uneventful recovery. She has earned her retirement and place in the sun.

Wow that's an amazing find after so long, must had found a warm hole to hibernate in over the winter. Do you thing she'll have any problems on three legs?
