ok so I originally posted this in the Pond section but figured I should move it here as this is a DIY project. First off I realize it is pondless but My mom is building a new house and she wanted a pond out front. Gov regulations are designed to eliminate the nature of natural selection so the pond had to go in the "iterests of Public safety".

Plan:
build a kick *** waterfall that goes into nothingness make it look cool and most of all sound amazing and yet be maintanance free.

Application:
ordered a pump thats good for 3200GPH (might be off a little) its a stainless pump so should last a long time and has low power consumtion and very little head loss for the 6ft of head this system will have. dig a hole 2 ft deep. Bury step dad in the bottom. go dumpster diving for some old preferably non pee stained carpet (for my sanity) line hole with carpet lay in liner. put underlay on liner (this is fishless and the people I have talked to said this is best) to protect from getting punctured with the stone to be layed on top. place modified Vault in hole, fill hole with 3" septic pipe (clean never used once again for my sanity and for the smell) this will increase the amount of water that will be held in the reservoir by 10X run return piping up to the top. cover 3" piping with gravel. build up the waterfall with stone feeding the piping through the cored stones. grout and shape rocks to what I need them to be (Master stone Masons gonna teach me his tricks and give me a hand) plug it all in and hope it works if it doesn't then I will have to run and hide

Mom says Im not allowed to bury her Hubby she kinda wants to keep him around Dang that sucks lol

construction will begin in a week I got approval for the equipment needed to be purchased and they liked the Ideas I have so its all a go. got some great help from a local pond place as well. its only about 500 yards from where this is going so they said if I have questions they will come and take a look. I am going with a 3200GPH pump and a 1800GPH drain basin but they have said thats all I need if modified properly and they are gonna show me how what a great place to work with

Is the vault a part of wetland type filteration? I have used vaults that are called centipedes since they resemble them. They hide the plumbing and make for easy pump removal in the winter. Super easy design that really works well. The company I use also makes a basin that is rigid plastic and is super easy to use. Basically a kiddie pool w/ a lid.

I thought about doing something like this in my back yard. I want a pond but my GSD likes to play in water so that will not work. Can't wait to see some pics while its being built.
I'm still amazed that Dave(our GSD) hasn't been in our pond yet, he's always heads straight for any water on walks.

Sorry to derail green

I'm not worried about things getting de-railed. the vault I'm using is designed to protect the pump and make it easy to access. it doesn't have a snorkel but the next size up does to increase flow. he Pond place said to fill the pit with 3"pvc sewer pipe and drill out a couple places to increase the flow. basically its a pond but you can't see the water in the bottom. as soon as I get back there I will take some pics of the place its geting located and then take pics of the progress. I doubt it will take to long but who knows how these things grow a mind of their own right.

Step dads rock... sometimes. Luck of the draw.

WTF is a GSD? I misread at first as GDS (God D@mned Son) and laughed, but then reread and scratched my head.
