building a tank for aquascape

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well im planning on some sort of amazon theme so the fish have got to come from there. im thinking of doing a lucky did. with the fish. people can say what they think should go in it . they will go down on paper and i will make a video of me picking them from a hat. and thats what will go in to the tank

Just my 2 cents.I have built big tanks before 12' x 4.5' x 4.5' I think you are going to need some more bracing at the top.I used steel and to 2x4's and It stilled bowed.
Awesome build.GL.

Nice looking tank, i will definetly go for something like this for my build, lokks pretty simple compared to many other builds out there. Hope it works! Is Gel coat the same as epoxy? Im not really into this.. How did you attach the bracings? And how did you attach the "crosses" of the bracing to the long ones that goes over.

Keep posted with pics, details is alot appriciated ;)

thanks mate . the gel coat is the stuff the use to make boats water proof. its had 2 good coats to make sure it dont leak. as for the bracing i had to get the hammer and chisel out so the all interlocking the have all bin glued screwed and fibreglassed as well as gel coat.

this is such a cool build, at the end i'd like some layouts and a list of total costs to see if I can do this once i get my own place. It's gonna look sick, and if I was there, I'd help you aquascape cause that's my passion. I already have sick ideas running through my head, especially if you want to go with the amazon theme. That tank reminds me of Takashi Amano's giant tanks. You should check out some of his tanks for some inspiration. Oh, and I vote for a school of fire tetras, cardinal tetras, and emperor tetras with discus and lots of rams. SOOOOOO sick. I actually prefer these community setups to just one large fish.... actually i don't. I switch back and forth all the time lol

my 2 cents for stocking... tons of central american cichlids such as GT, festae, w/e you think, just tones of color... or rays and cats

just a little update on the pics. . i got these 2" fittings from a local spa manufacturers. that i will use for my water outlets and pickups. there will be 2 outlets one on each side of the back of the tank .and as you can see the drain is in the floor.
