Burm with a URI

Are you soaking the snake in water with tetracycline or will you be giving the snake tetracycline in it's drinking water?
I'm confused as to what soaking a snake in antibiotics will do to a snake with a RI.
You need to administer the TC so it gets in to the snakes body.
THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE THE 8TH. I hate to sound rude but this can turn in to a serious health issue if you don't do something quickly. TC tablets are 8-10 bucks at any pet shop.

Putting it in his drinking water would be a waste. They don't drink on a regular basis. He'd sooner dump a fatty snake log in his drinking water than actually drink from it. However when you soak snakes they usually end up drinking alot of the water. Soaking him in the tetracycline is gonna be my best bet.

Also respiratory infections are extremely common in pythons. I'm actually not super paranoid about it. I've never seen a snake die from a RI. It's the weakened immune system caused by the URI that makes way for other problems which in turn lead to a severely sick snake or even death. This particular snake has had this infection for quite some time. He's not gonna be pushin' daisy's any time soon. Trust me.

Ok then best of lucks:) But are you not able to somehow force the snake into ingesting the antibiotic? That would be your best bet

Yeah. I could shove stuff down his throat, but I don't want to stress the poor guy. He's just gotten used to me so I'm trying to make all this as stress-free as possible. Forceful tactics and anything involving a needle are being saved for last.

Hey! Thanks for the idea Reptech. I've soaked him once in the tetracycline and he's already showing signs of getting better. I have no idea if it works that rapidly, or if raising his temperature did the trick. Either way he's not hacking in the middle of the night and waking me up :D!

a bath with tetracyclene wont do much, If you want your snake to live you need injectable antibiotics and you need to run them for 2-4 weeks. Burms are notorious for URI and its very hard to rid them of it. You need to find a good vet that will sell you a bottle of antibiotics and let you do the injections at home. Call one of the big breeders on KINGSNAKE.COM that deal with large pythons they will put you in the right direction.

He's doin better actually. I know he's not cured, and im not sure if the tetracyclene helped or not. I'm probably gonna take him to a reptile vet a few hours away sometime soon. Do you know anything besides batryl I can poke him with?

another suggestion is to dose the food with a good amount of antibiotics. you can sprinkle the antibiotics on the food source and that way the snake gets it in his system.
