busted my new 180 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah... its was a hot day here, about 28 degrees celcius but still i see your point. everything was level, no uneven spots in stand nothing. there must have been stress cracks in it already, it was a very old tank. lesson learned i geuss. i think im just gonna save up and pick up a new 180. straight from store into house onto stand lol.

bah humbug

28 wont cause it lol all my out door tanks would be cracked then and we even get up to 40C in a summer if it went from 28C down to 10C instantly theres a small chance that could cause it.

Ah well I guess saving up is your best bet id look into water dragons or a snake for that tank would work great. could even do turtles if you set it up right ;)

bummer. that was a big decision for me in getting my new tank. I went smaller so I could get delivery under the local manufacturers warranty. if they break it bringing it in, they'll fix it. I see you're only about 2.5 hours away, let me know if you want their name. I don't know if they'll go that far out.
with you being 2.5 hours away it wouldn't hurt to keep an eye on the detroit craigslist. might find something worth the drive.

What if You have a sheet of acrylic cut to size and silicone it in the bottom? If it wont fit due to bracing you can cut it in half, and make it fit that way. Don't want you to throw good money after bad. But for most of us that initial cost is just too much to just flush down the drain. seems like it would work with a good seal job and thick enough acrylic... I've seen greater miracles performed on this site.

Wouldn't even have to be too thick, you have the lower glass, if you seal that with silicone too and smudge it into the holes it will support the sides so you could get away with 6-8MM

That's horrible man. I definitely wouldn't write it off yet though. There are ways to fix it and since it is the bottom panel it doesn't even have to look good lol which opens up more options.

well im not sure, i have a buddy of mine that keeps snakes that will take it for 200 bucks. i think thats pretty fair. plus he is not taking the stand or anything else, so with my original purchase i still have 2 power heads, the 2217, heater, lots of driftwood, water change python kit, and some carbon and stuff like that. so i think for state of mind im going to sell it. i paid 600 for everything so getting 200 back, not far to save to a new 180.

i think big als has the lowest price, 649.99, perfecto i think they are.

funny side note for ****s and giggles i called petsmart to see up to what size they carry. the lady on the phone says they dont special order, they can only sell what comes off the truck that week. then she said there online store has a larger selection from the states and i should try there. 6 foot rectangle about 400 pounds, hmmm lol thats a shipping nightmare

^_^ you could get 2 by the time you ship it!!

I guess if your not confident with fixing the base dont try it, like you said you still got a decent deal so its better to spend the $$ and get a grantee then re fix it which may lead to more issues down the line if not done right. better safe then sorry in the long run.

Its funny I always think down under we get ripped off but it seems fish tanks are one thing we get cheaper then everyone else, glass only:) 6x2x2 tank only runs 350$ brand new here 2 year seal grantee. I feel happy knowing that lol.

Anyways post some pictures of the new tank and the base of the broken one if you get a chance. I really want to see this base and love seeing new tanks.
