CA Fish & Game Commission President Shoots Cougar

so some of you may have heard this and i found it to be an interesting topic.

it is illegal to shoot cougars in california, it's perfectly legal to shoot them in Idaho which is where Daniel Richards, California Fish & Game Commission President, shot the cougar. he also ate it for dinner and says it tastes like pork loin.

this of course stirred outrage with people and many demanded he resign his position. I can understand why some may feel that way. but i think he was right in standing his ground and not resigning. as long as he hunted the cougar legally then i have no problem with it.

While I agree with his decision not to resign, and while not technically wrong... He's a dumb SOB if he didn't expect this type of reaction. Any time you work in the public service arena, you have to expect people to jump all over any semi-questionable decision, especially at higher levels.

the thing is, CA fish and game isn't a nature conservation org. they are just regulating and issuing permits and what not. so from my understanding they are not against hunting, they just regulate it. keep people from over hunting/fishing and doing it illegally so i don't see a problem.

There ain't a damn thing wrong with hunting it's good for the population good for local economy and good food to boot. The damn guy should push to open a season in california the population is spilling over into neighborhoods. And the cats there don't fear humans so people get attacked every year. There is no where for young to establish territory other than populated areas they need some control.

Yeah, I'm not talking about right/wrong, just perception... It was apparently totally legal for him to hunt the cougar. But, if he has managed to become the President of an agency that enforces laws against hunting the animal, and there weren't some bells going off in his head that the public perception about this event would be negative, then he's a dumb-A...

yea i get what you're saying. but i just don't agree

I don't see anything's wrong with this? He took a prefectly legal cougar OUT of state and not inside California....My bud went to the Dakotas and took a completely legal paddlefish and swans where Minnesota makes it illegal to harvest a paddlefish or swan (other than Mute Swan) inside the state, does it means he is a bad guy?

Agreed and high ranking commission official or not he is obviously an avid hunter who,as far as we know,does his hunting where it is allowed....What puzzles me is that he was said to have eaten the cougar.I've never heard of anyone eating carnivorous mammals let alone big cats.
