CA Fish & Game Commission President Shoots Cougar

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well said by a 16 year old from Brooklyn. Do you have any experience with any of those animals? I have been camping and woke up by a 350 lbs black bear that had no fear of humans. Thank god he didn't want to scrap with me or I probably wouldn't be typing this today. It took six of us yelling and screaming at him with maglites before he would leave the camp. Not a good night sleep after that.

and props to the commish for that beautiful cat. Not my style but if he likes it great for him.

Clearly my age and location makes me a total doorknob to anything related to this topic, and I apologize to all who had to read my post, and I hope I didnt lower the collective IQ of the site by doing so.
Rougue animals and aggressive animals are a different story. If it's a matter of kill or be killed, then sure, survival is above all else. If my neck was in danger from an animal and I had the means to fend it off to survive, I would do it. I'd feel bad if it resulted in the death of the animal, but I'd do it to save my own, or someone else's, life. But trophy hunting for keystone predators just seems like something we should have evolved past by no.

Well a rougue aggressive animal is totally a different story.
And that's because you're kinda a redneck :grinno:

You know it :D. And why do we have to wait for it to become aggressive(ie attack and likly kill) when simple population management(ie hunting) will prevent many occurances of such aggression? On top of that, hunting brings in money to areas that might not have much else goinng for it.

You guys say it's better hunting predatory mammals than them coming into towns and attacking people...
I agree 100%, safety of human beings is important, but it's funny when people say stuff like that and go miles and miles into the wilderness to find one and then shoot it ;)

By that philosphy though, why havent we killed all animals around us? I see your point. I just dont agree. ;)

:iagree:

Because we dont need to kill all animals. Simple population management is an effective tool. Same as elephant hunting, gator hunting, deer hunting. Not only is it fun, but its a simple management tool. Its ok, you live in brooklyn, your allowed to not understand :D.

Well population management is okay if it can be proven that the species is too numerous. And I may be from Brooklyn but I have been fishing since I was 5, usually in the same small cluster of locations, and it's very noticeable when a certain population is on the decline due to overharvest. One year everyone is catching Black Seabass by the boatload and taking all of them, because the previous year they spawned well, but the next year, since the word got around that they were numerous and everyone was slaughtering them, there are none. Or no large ones, anyway.

What does that have to do with the price of cheese in china??

We arnt talking over harvasting, thats a seperate issue.

Can anyone provide exact population data for cougars in that ecosystem? No? I wonder why...
I´m against hunting and would not support it in any way. And eating carnivorous mammals can cause very serious health issues. I´m not only talking about parasites like Echinococcus multilocularis, which is lethal by the way...I also think about prions, plasmodium and rabies

Hurray you join in to spout nonsence!!! Huzzah!! Eatting any meat under cooked can cause issues.

And yes there is studys done on animal populations all the time.

Don't know if you meant me,but dude, I certainly do not live in Brooklyn. And Darius,no hunting at all would possibly disturb the relation between predators..
Where I live, boar are severely hunted, and there is still a huge over-population of them. They destroy crop fields, vineyards and young trees. They have also started coming into towns, citys and villages and destroying gardens/attacking people. Hunting them is essential here.
